Why did Rooney have to hit the post ?

Desperate straw clutching, worst ever England team to appear in a World Cup Final. Arguably no players who are world class. Germany are not all that as will become apparent I'm sure but they thrashed us. To think we had a prayer of going all the way was about as likely as Stockport winning League 1 last season.

We were rubbish we deserved to go out (although at 2-2 would have been a different game) - BUT do you need to be 'world beaters' to win the world cup ? Italy were very average on the verge of going out to Aussies before they won. Didn't france only very narrowly beat Paraguay in 98 ? I am just pointing out that luck plays a big part in tournament football.

And England had a sizeable chunk by beating Slovenia and then only conceding 4 to Germany

As was I. But the others don't seem to understand that.

To them it's black and white. We were shit against Germany and before therefore we'd be shit against whoever we faced. Football doesn't work like that. One confident performance can change everything.

Luck plays a massive part.

Why "should" they have won? What do you base that on?

The fact that they are better than the other teams. Simple.

Love the way you put lets move on then suddenly reply to my post...:stupid:

Exactly. Can't believe people still think England could have progressed and got to the final, whoever they played

Don't think you're getting what i'm saying here. I'm not making excuses for England's 2 bad performances. I'm saying it's frustrating because had England played at even 70% maybe they would have got to the semi in my opinion. And had they played like they were in qualifying they'd have undoubtedly topped the grp and would have had a route to the final that any England fan would have bit your hand off for. That's all i'm saying...

Had most people on here seen the draw (top grp, Ghana, Uruaguay, Holland...) before a ball was kicked then most people on here would have us to get to the semis and a lot on here would think we'd make the final on that draw. Don't see how you can argue with that?

Short memories some people have...

:lol::lol::lol:

Nice one... You've judged about 4 or 5 world class players on a few bad performances. Rooney had a shite season this yr didn't he:US:

I did want to move on, but couldn't resist replying because I still can't believe what people are saying.

How are England better then any other team in that tournament?

I can't understand you're logic of saying it could this and it could that. Yes it could have been different, but we could have been even worse and lost all three group games. What's the point in persisting with the ifs and buts? England were shit - fact. They don't deserve there - Fact. Anything else is complete supposition

Just ignore them.

"Rooneys shit and should never play for England again"
"Cole world class? The Mexico left back is better for starters"

Just two of some ridiculous comments I've seen on here.

Have to agree with lots of people on here, I love england and like sheebo I really wanted us to win. If we had topped the group we may have gone a little further but.......and I hate to admit it, we were just not good enough by quite some distance. We deserved to go out when we did :(

To be World Class you have to show it on the World stage, only Ashley Cole came close

Yes i know what you mean but had we played like we had been for the last 2 yrs it could have been a completely diff tourno. In fact it should have been different cos we'd consistantly played well in qualifying. It's just a disappointment that's all... We will never get a better draw than we had this yr in my opinion...

Look i want to move on from it too - i avoided nsc for a few days cos i knew there would be some dross on here and i've always been a real supporter of England which others on here simply aren't. Positive, yes. Deluded, no.

Roll on Swindon away - that was exactly what i text my mates when we lost to the refer... sorry German skum  (couldn't resist that last bit of blatant fishing)

Well, more accurately, FOUR shithouse performances in succession. Everyone is entitled to an off day, but you're asking people to accept that they're world class.

Just to recap: The highlight of our world cup was a 1-0 win over a team of mostly division 3 players. We couldn't score against Algeria and got totally outclassed by Germany.

Doesn't exactly scream "World class" does it?

Everyone hates me on here when we talk about England

I'm a supporter... Oh well...

PS - I've not denied we were poor overall once - it's just so frustrating cos we had a great draw and were great in qualifying under Capello...

People on here love to pop at England - I'm bored of telling them they sound like plastic Man U fans :bla:

Absolute bollocks. We played well against Slovenia... Total short memory...

And how the f*** have you put a good counter point up there to me saying don't judge players like Gerrard / Rooney on ONE competition out of probably 6 Euros / WCs that they will / have played in? I'll answer that for you - you haven't.

Well no. We looked decent enough in the first half, but were left clinging on towards the end. You make it sound like we put the game to bed after 20 minutes and weren't in any way shitting it and screaming for Joe Cole to keep the ball by the corner flag in injury time.

Bit tricky considering they were TOO SHIT to even qualify for the Euros in 2008.

Messi has not been good this tournament. Most shots on goal out out of every single player. No goals. Still looks decent what with a class side around him, but don't think many people will doubt he's world class.

Kaka hasn't performed this tournament, he is still world class. Same goes with Ronaldo.

It's hard to justify why Rooney played so badly but football is a very hard game to be consistent in. Every great striker, even those who have ridiculous goal averages throughout their career have dips where they don't score for 5, 6 sometimes even more.

We should've won it 3 or 4 nil - poor finishing yes but a good performance. Could you tell the difference in tempo from the consistantly high tempo of the Slovenia game to the slow tempo of the Germany game? We should've played with the same tempo against Slovenia...

I really want to stop talking about it now - it's been a week almost.
