Why did Hammond leave Southampton?

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but why did Hammond leave?

He was their captain last season, and by that, it's not unreasonable to assume that he was rated by Adkins. To send him out on loan can only have been done if he wasn't thought of being up to the premiership, but nearly all comments regarding his performance last night were very positive.

I can't imagine he's gone from being captain to not required, so anyone know?

Simple !!
He wanted to play better football, with better players , a better manager, at a far better run club with far more realistic ambitions, in front of a far more loyal crowd, in a better ground
in his home stomping ground.
IMHO !!

You can only presume he wasn't considered up to premiership standard. A decent performance against a lower half championship side doesn't prove anything.

Because he's finally realised Adkins is a proper bellend!

If that is the case why did they let him go as the rest of the squad hasn't been allowed to go out on loan either ?

Seems a bit of a similar thing to Crofts - OK, Crofts stayed at Norwich for a season in the Prem, but wasn't a regular, I don't think. Both good Championship players, but neither rated as Prem standard by their managers, perhaps?

Looks like he saw the writing on the wall as it were, frankly, he has done well to get out now before Stains end up with Swindon's record in the Premiership in 93/94 !

Because they didn't want/need him in their premiership squad this season but will be needing him back next year when they come down and we go up.

ecause he was third choice last year, and fell even further down the pecking order following the signing of Davis and the emergence of the brilliant JWP.
