Why aren't the stewards telling those fans at Old Trafford to sit down?

Hmm not sure about that. Are all the ground regs printed on the back of the ticket????

Should be on every ticket sold within the football league. Every ticket i have torn in the turnstiles has had it on and the regs are at the entrance to all turnstiles. People buy theses tickets knowing the regs but are insistant on breaking them for no other reason than disrespect for authority.

Do you seriously think that ANYONE reads the ground regulations before going into the ground...?

Dream on

What are you talking about!.....there are very few fans who deliberately stand up to "disrespect authority". Most people stand up at Withdean because , the view can be compromised when ( from our stand) the ball goes into the bottom right hand corner, there is an exciting period of play, there has just been an exciting period of play and people are discussing it, we are attacking and the chance of a goal is expected, we are taking a corner or a free kick, when the Referee or linesman makes a contentious decision.....some people stand for a period of time because its cold, they are wet, the old Farmer Giles are playing up....but more times than not, people are obscuring their view!

The last point is an interesting one as not everyone finds a particular passage of play exciting, therefore a fan of a particular player may jump up when that player kicks the ball, or makes a tackle or scratches his balls, this in turn leads to people behind standing up and so on and so on.

I think the issue here is the preceived zealous nature of authority. The last few games, I have noticed that fewer and fewer people are standing for long periods at a time probably because the product is not that appealing! I think in some circumstances, you have to be a bit more patient with people........having you guys running up and down the stairs every 5 minutes is just plain silly

Dave we are as patient as we are allowed to be BUT we are just doing what we are asked by our supervisors. You know we don't run up the stairs every 5 mins either and yes there are quite a few fans who stand up just to wind the stewards up and we know who they are.

When we have to go up into the stands we try to sit people down from the front so those behind sit down. You know my opinions on some of the ground regs but all us stewards are doing is our jobs as we have been asked to so ONCE AGAIN please just show a little respect when we ask nicely as we are only doing our jobs!

Well I obviously can sing whilst sitting, but do choirs, church congregations etc. I think most people would agree that standing significantly improves the atmosphere.

It's weird - I want to agree with that, and I do miss those old Goldstone days of standing on the edge of the North Stand steps craning every muscle vertically with anticipation. However, I've watched games and sat in away stands where it was loaded with tense or excited atmosphere, and the only perceivable difference from Withdean, seems to be the roof (vs lack of) and the proximity of the pitch itself.

In Germany I went to see Fortuna Dusseldorf, and they had a LOT of space between fans and pitch....probably more than at Withdean. It was a freakin' VOID, a vacuum, no atmosphere and an awful detachment from the game going on in front of us.
I've noticed this at many overseas stadiums - there are a lot of them with running tracks and distance - and they are all, as far as I could see, devoid of decent atmosphere.

Personally I like the chance to sit during a match, and do stand occasionally for the more interesting bits only. The middle of the South Stand tend to just voluntarily sit back down once the tense bit has been and gone though.

Sorry Dave wasn't aimed at you  Was just put in the conversation as a general point (see Kukev etc for who it's aimed at) just pisses me off some people are in it just to try and wind the stewards up.

Where you sit isn't the worst as you know and i have never known you be anything but brilliant to deal with.

Wish all fans were like that really!
