Could somebody PLEASE explain to me why Percy can't play for us now?
We are, as I'm sure you are all aware, STILL a part of Europe.
Young Perc, can go to Europe and play immediately.
He is however not allowed to play in this country until he gets the magic piece of paper.
Surely the same rules should apply.
Could someone post and explain the laws/rules that are being applied in this country that don't affect our European cousins?

I am delighted by the way our club has adapted its approach since we got promoted, with some clearly very smart long term strategies that most of us on NSC (with some noteworthy exceptions) don't quite understand. I am certainly among the latter. Nevertheless I am quite happy for daylight to not be shined on the magic. This is the exact opposite of the Archer years when people had to shine a light on the shit shower destroying our club. My glass is now very much (more than) half full

The right to live and work in any EU country is given to citizens of EU countries only. Tau is South African and does not hold an EU passport.
For non-EU citizens, each country makes its own rules regarding eligibility to work. Therefore the UK work permit is harder to obtain than other countries because of the rules that have been set domestically.
Tau would need a separate permit to work in any individual country (unless he obtains a European passport, which likely would take several years). Whereas, as an EU citizen, for example Andone, can play in any EU country no questions asked.

I stand to be corrected, but presumably this comes down to the rules of the particular country's Football Association. I presume, therefore, that the FA has stricter criteria for issuing a GBE (Governing Body Exemption) than the FAs of other European countries. (The Home Office won't grant a work permit without this GBE).

Tell me where Bobby Zamora came from. Did he come from "new facilities" ? You don't need gilded training grounds, 4G pitches and ice baths to nurture brilliant talent. It helps, but its not the be-all and end-all. You need to have a scheme whereby raw talent is recognised, nurtrued, and you need the coaches to bring it to fruition so that they can realise their full potential. Which in terms of strikers, BHA have not yet achieved.
I'm not saying it'll never happen - but so far, it hasn't. And lesser clubs than ours have done it. We're still behind on that particular curve.

I disagree. It was only this time 10 years ago, we'd pulled off the impossible with the big name signings of David Livermore and Kevin McCleod. You could see we were in for a bright future.
