In the absence of anything exciting happening today have a think about this.

I've been giving this some thought and am yet yo make up my mind.

Currently it's obviously Bolt.
Historically may well be Daley Thompson, although I'm not sure, yet.

Oh I almost forgot the likes of Eric the Eel, even though 'pointing and laughing at the foreigner' doesn't sit to well with me now.

I guess it would be rude to not mention the hormonally challenged Stat's choice, Katrin Krabbe.

I like Sir Chris Hoy. 2 of my main hobbies are bikes and cars, love motorsport. Had a little chat with him at Le Mans this year, he's a very approachable person and clearly passionate about both.

I like the watching man and beast together. Richard Meade was Britain's most successful equestrian Olympian, winning 3 golds. Just shows you couldn't beat Dick.

Greg Rutherford - Gets nothing like the credit he deserves.

You mean that he doesn't get the recognition he deserves for being the reigning Diamond League, Commonwealth, European, World, & Olympic Champion? Yep - I'd agree with that.

Charlotte Dujardin - dressage. World, Olympic, European and Commonwealth champ.

Legend and a bloody nice person.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Jessica Ennis. Has to be great in 7 different disciplines.

Historically Daley Thompson for similar reasons (yes, I know it was the decathlon).

+1

His image suffers from him being opinionated and ginger unfortunately. He should get way more recognition for his achievements.

Steve Ovett - I ran around Withdean Stadium with him (and loads of other people) after his medal win in 1980. Local Legend.

Now - Probably just Wiggins, but honourable mentions to Cavendish, Ennis, Farah, Nicola Adams....

English & European
Félix Sánchez. Was unbeatable for a time over the 400m Hurdles (my old event when I was fit). Made winning the Olympics in 2004 easy. Then, when given no chance in 2012 after years of injury set backs and not doing a lot on the global stage, comes back and wins again in the same time as in Athens, and his fastest run in 8 years.
