The chances are the same who ever you play for? The reason he played for united/real Madrid is because he was the best around.

Only thing is you will get an endless stream of chances in a match playing for Man Utd whereas you would get much less playing for the teams Shearer played for. Apart from assistance from Sutton at Blackburn - Shearer was a one man team - don't think RVN comes near him.

Denis Law.

Deadly in the 6 yard box. Some purists used to call it 'goal hanging' but he was paid to put the ball in the net and thats exactly what he did. The Lawman could teach our current lot a few things about finishing.

Dear old Alan Biley used to be a big fan of Denis and mimic'd his playing style.

Shearer was class I agree. Probably the best finisher with his head ill give you that. If only he had gone to a top top side the whole world could of seen how good he was more often. That's why I'd go for RVN did it at the highest level in Europe.

ronaldo (the proper one (brazilian and fat)) was out of this world....he had a knack of shooting a split second before what was natural for most strikers, catching the keeper off guard, which made him absolutely deadly in one on ones....he wasn't your classic "goal hanger" type striker though, as he contributed so much more with his pace, strength and technical ability, but in one on ones he's probably the best i've seen

robbie fowler was also brilliant in his liverpool days, SO clinical....wasn't big or particularly quick, but great positioning. Shearer was more than just a finisher, and was great in the air as well as being able to score a large amount of goals from outside the box....think he's possibly the best pure striker of a football I've ever seen. Van Nistelrooy is possibly the best pure finisher I've seen in the Premier League- very clinical in the box, don't remember him missing many chances in the box, and he had great positioning. Not many "classic" strikers about these days, but Messi is obviously clinical with his ability to simply pass the ball into the bottom corner....hence his insane goal count

Absolutely no doubt about this. Mr J P Greaves. Saw him many times for Tottenham including the legendary goal against Man Utd in 1965 - easy to find on You tube.

Who's that? *

* A question over-heard in the club shop yesterday by a boy looking at the Peter Ward smartphone cover. I resisted the temptation to call him a JCL.

No one will ever beat Shearer goal scoring record in what is known as the toughest league in the world. He played for lesser clubs and had fewer chances than all the others , he could also score from anywhere and could score using his head as well as both feet not to mention his desire to score , he would put his body on line to score a goal which the Owens , Fowlers , RVP's etc etc never would , not o mention the injuries he suffered and still came back to keep being a prolific scorer. He has to be top 3
