Does Ali J fit into the flair category?

Beautiful hair on a beautiful man.

Described as the Iranian Messi he clearly had a velvet touch and incredible technique.

He came to us in one of the all time great signing saga's and with an army of Iranian fanboys and a huge amount of hype and expectation after his exploits in Holland only to consistently promise a lot but deliver very little. Only scored a handful of goals - cried like a baby after his first and then scored an absolute worldy with his second before vanishing back into the shadows.

Bought for about 17million we sold him for 1m? Thus making a huge loss financially whilst he delivered minimally on the pitch. Maybe it was his signing and Albion career that made Tony Bloom review/refine/sort out the magical algorithm that got us Ally Mac, Caicedo et al.

Not sure he was particularly controversial of the pitch though. If it turns out that he was Shane Duffy's number one drinking partner and he had a threesome with the big man and a local married strumpet whilst dressed as the krankies then he could be a winner.
yeh I'm happy with this. I remember the climax of his transfer saga culminated in him touching down on some rural runway with a private jet, complete with a full on entourage.

His quiet, unassuming demeanour possibly adds in his favour considering the incredible amount of drama he created. Also worth noting that he basically did absolutely nothing beyond a one week period where he scored 2 great goals including one of the best EVER scored at the amex.

He was also devilishly handsome

He's in

Astley, Manchester
Johnny Byrne, Vicente and Frank Worthington as nominees.
The winner is Frank Worthington in my book.
Could play hung over, and still had loads of technical ability.

Rod Thomas, John Byrne & Gotsmanov

Byrne is now in, could one or both of you add something for me to go on here as I don't know much about him other than him being quite a good player

Off field and possibly even on field shenanigans
– Varied. Including “I tried to get a second booking. I did about 15 fouls,”

Skill but in an “unfulfilled potential” kind of way – He ONLY had 3 caps for England FFS.

Extravagant hair/appearance – Well, the headband is famous….

Foster.jpg

Controversy - The headband was never actually a headband. ‘It was made out of a big white towel. The night before a game, the kit man’s wife used to cut it up, fold it, sew it, stitch on the pad to protect my forehead.”

it would be easier for me if it was in a posted reply if I'm honest, especially when there's more than 1 player in a post
OK!

  • The celebration.
  • The fact he could look very clumsy and poor or brilliant and completely unstoppable at any one time.
  • Hitting a free kick so hard the camera didn't keep up with it on one goal I remember.
  • The stepover and drive to the byline for a cross you knew was coming but the opposition couldn't stop.
  • His first name is KAZENGA.

I swear Warren called him LuaLuaLua once as well.
Seconded

I'd like to second Anthony Knockaert. A great mix of being a) a great footballer, b) a complete wildcard on his day, c) an absolute box of flair as a winger, d) typically temperamental

I'll also add in Calderon because he's so good he could even score with his face, and Jurgen Locadia because he was signed for masses of cash, got a hefty contract and was (just about) a better DJ than footballer.
seconding calderon

I'll second Turienzo and Sandaza.

Nominating Florent Chaigneau for alleged womanising and chain-smoking while on the books with us. Part of a flurry of French players over a few years. Don't remember any performances from him, but would have likely been pretty shit.

yeh I once saw Chaigneau at the "Beach Club". He had a ciggie in his mouth and had about 5 women grinding away on him while he just kind of stood there taking it all in

Happy to second him

Good shout.

The night we beat Man U to stay up in our first PL season he obviously knew he was on his way out and was doing a tour of the Amex bars after the game. My son got a selfie with him and I had an absolutely crackers conversation where neither of us understood a word the other said.

Skalak also scored one of the best ever amex goals amidst generally achieving very little
