I believe that we wanted to sign him but Arsenal wouldn't play ball as they knew what a force he'd become.

I thought he was surplus to requirements at Arsenal at the time and they ended up selling him to Villa after we refused to pay the 100 k or whatever? They eventually saw the error of their ways and resigned him from Everton??

Martin Keown. Even as a lad I could tell he oozed class but we didn't have the £50-100k they wanted for him at the time.

Add it to the long list of mistakes made by the club owners I the late 80's, early 90's.
