Anyone on here with real knowledge of the top 2 divisions in Spain? I just have this feeling of getting a rather unknown name from a manager who has managed in Spain and speaks basic English. Don't have a name myself but just wondered if anyone can think of someone who fits the bill?

Not at all convinced by Di Matteo. Possibly someone from abroad but, of the tried and trusted, could do a lot worse than Kenny Jackett.

I agree. I was really impressed with his MO after I read Family, Life Death & Football by Michael Calvin.

Freedman is the real deal and would be great but that won't happen. My shortlist would include Glenn Hoddle & Alan Curbishley. Yes, both have been out of the game for a while but look at their records.
My wildcard choice , Graeme Jones, assistant manager to Martinez at Wigan. Or, IF Watford don't go up, could Zola be prised away from them?

Why? He has been out of management for much too long.

Longer than someone who has never managed before....like Gus Poyet when we first hired him.

Why would time away matter? If anything it gives him a chance to study the game further rather than being in a bubble.

I know your anti-curbs anyway as I remember from a previous thread you claiming he failed at his previous jobs. Charlton - pormoted and achieved miracles to be fair.

West Ham - joined when they were almost certain to go down. he won 7 of his last 9 and saved them. Then overachieved again the next season (top 10 finish) before leaving as the board sold players from under him and he took them to court. He won.

Jens Keller, but sadly Schalke have just realised what they've got and given him a two-year contract extension.

Any of

Rangnick

Rossler
Zola

Will be tricky to get a couple of those tbh.

I am not anti Curbishley just think that he is not the real deal as many on here suggest and I would think that many other chairmen think the same as he has never been offered a job for some time.

As regards Gus having not been a No 1 you my remember, that I was probably the first to suggest him and you will also remember that like Mullery who hadn't managed before joining us and he didn't do too badly. I would rather go with the suggestion by Wardy Wonderland of Frank Lampard Jnr as player manager if he can be prised here.

oooh Ranieri!!! vastly underrated manager in England. Went back to Italy and ended up winning Serie A with Juve, after going to them in Serie B. Not afraid of dropping down if he thinks the juice is worth the squeeze :)

Martin O'Neil. Out of work at the moment but would he drop to the championship

If Gus doesn't like our budget, can't see him being happy judging by the amount he spent at Villa and Sunderland. Also, we need someone who can coach players. He doesn't take part in that at all.

.

Yes he has. He turned down Wolves when they sacked McCarthy.

I dunno, but I'm quite happy to leave the decision to Tony Bloom.
