Wright-Phillips is shithouse.
Lennon can run, but he doesnt skin players or create anything.
Would rather have Walcott over those two any day.

Haha, LEnnon has probably skinned more players than most teams players combined have! He is also in the top 10 for assists. Guy is world class.

I know there's been talk of a weakness in the goalkeeping section, with James getting on a bit, Foster looking shaky and Kirkland unable to stay fit for more than 2.6 seconds at a time, and I think I've hit upon the answer.

We have, playing in this country, a goalkeeper who isn't English but who has somehow been overlooked by his own national team despite obviously being good enough to represent them at the top level. He'd qualify for citizenship, so I'm wondering if it's worth Fab giving him a call and getting him signed up for 2010. Ladies and gentlemen, I present England's new Number One:

Why are people putting Walcott in preference to Lennon when Lennon has proved he is the best wide player in the country by a mile. He will occupy right midfield with back up possibly from Beckham. Milner will be the left midfielder with back up from either Ashley Young, Joe Cole or even posssibly Stewart Downing, but I hope not the latter.

But surely Walcott offers more off the bench as a striker than say... Carlton Cole?

Agreed the option to bring Crouch or Walcott on as your wild cards as it were when chasing a game must be considered. For what its worth my squad would be if all fully fit and on form.

Kirkland/J Hart (no point in taking David James if he is to be 3rd choice better imho to take a younger goalie for the experience)
Robinson

Apart from his last serious England game, when he, erm - skinned players and created the first two goals. And every game he's played for Spurs this season.

Well done.

Great thread! So far we've had a squad without James, and a squad without Ferdinand. I'm just waiting with baited breath for the squad without Rooney or Gerrard!

I wouldn't have Gerrard in my squad. He does bugger all in an england shirt.

Not Luton! Thank God
If Barry got injured in the first game, we would have a Gerrard/Lampard central midfield for the rest of the World Cup. No thanks. There's also no cover at right-back. Hate to say it, but I don't see an alternative to Wes Brown...

Edit: I've also noticed you only selected 22 players!

James
Green
Robinson

Ferdinand
Terry
Upson
A Cole
Johnson
Bridge
W.Brown

Lampard
Gerrard
Barry
Carrick/Hargreaves
Lennon
Jo Cole
Milner
Walcott
Beckham

Rooney
Defoe
Heskey
Crouch

I think this is pretty much right. SWP is horribly horribly overrated. I hope Hargreaves recovers fitness and form. Would have to think twice about whether you picked carrick instead but you do need another defensive midfielder in there.
