Would that mean losing Barry though?

I would probably lose one of Upson, Woodgate or Lescott from your squad. I pressume Barry is also you cover for Ashley Cole, as there is no Wayne Bridge in there.

Hargreave would also offer cover for Glen Johnson.

I think in reality, Postman Pat will probably only pick 4 forwards and then take Walcott as cover for the strikers and the right midfield slot.

It's far too early be talking about such things - we have six months for several players to crock themselves.

I'd be surprised to see Owen anywhere near the squad though - unless there are a lot of striker injuries.

:lolol: yeah, drop the most consistant player of the last couple of years. hargreaves isnt going.

i would go with your original suggestion, except Lennon for Walcott (unless he has a great run of games at arsenal) and i'd leave Crouch out for now, with the 5th striker determined on the basis of whos the most confident/prolific in the second half of the season.

Why are people putting Walcott in preference to Lennon when Lennon has proved he is the best wide player in the country by a mile. He will occupy right midfield with back up possibly from Beckham. Milner will be the left midfielder with back up from either Ashley Young, Joe Cole or even posssibly Stewart Downing, but I hope not the latter.

If Barry got injured in the first game, we would have a Gerrard/Lampard central midfield for the rest of the World Cup. No thanks. There's also no cover at right-back. Hate to say it, but I don't see an alternative to Wes Brown...

Edit: I've also noticed you only selected 22 players!

Why have the first few posters left out the best winger in the country this season? Lennon's a cert for the starting eleven at the moment, never mind the squad.

Walcott's got plenty of promise, but I don't think a hat-trick two years before the tournament is any guarantee of a place. If you've got Beckham, Joe Cole and Lennon, there's only room for one more - that'd be Milner for me currently.

I think Walcott will go as 5th striker. It could be argued that Gerrard is Capello's first choice left-winger by the way. So we could have Lennon, Beckham, Walcott, Milner, Gerrard & Cole. I can't see SWP in the squad... he's never really done it for England under Capello

Great thread! So far we've had a squad without James, and a squad without Ferdinand. I'm just waiting with baited breath for the squad without Rooney or Gerrard!
