Well...I stopped listening to the Jam in about 1980.

Because The Clash played Punk, Reggae, ska, power pop and lets face it good old common pop I still listen to them now. (although not often) so I would say The Clash. I also think the Jam were more London sound and the Clash were the bigger band around the world.

The Jam filled the Centre 5 times 5,000 in 1982 (which no'one has beaten) I saw 3 of em.
The Clash played it to 900 (there were very good reasons for this I'll admit & I'm being economical with the truth here)
