To paraphrase Lennon, they weren't even the best songwriters in The Beatles.

Sinatra had it right when he said that the best Lennon & McCartney song is 'Something'.

Off the top of my head Dylan, Smokey Robinson, Ray Davies, Brian Wilson, Goffin & King, Pete Townshend, Holland, Dozier & Holland, Steve Cropper, Hayes and Porter, Bacharach and David, Roy Orbison, Gaudio and Crewe, John Fogerty, Jon Sebastian, Albert Lee and Bryan McLean, Sam Cooke, Cale and Reed, Peter Green, would mean they shouldn't even get close to the top ten of sixties songwriters.

Lennon was wrong, Sinatra was wrong and you are wrong. :)

Together they were far better than either of them individually. And Harrison was superb. It says something about a band when a genuine musical genius is their THIRD most important member.

The old Leicester lag has been outshone by the Wigan boy now, I think.

Now this for me is the correct answer Paul wrote great pop songs great melodys, Many of Johns songs are simpler musically but harder hitting lyrically but George's music for me was the from the heart the songs he wrote I think stand out was it not Frank Sinarta who said the best Lennon and MaCartney song was "something " .
Every beatles song not only has words we all know but also a little guitar melody which was always George's work where less was more but fitted perfectly

McCartney done The Frog Chorus & Waterfalls so it has to be him for me.

Oh and Pipes of Peace.

Don't forget f*cking "Ebony and Ivory" - the worst record ever made by a "proper singer" (possibly)

What makes it worse is that it was made with Stevie Wonder. How the **** did Stevie Wonder And Paul McCartney, two of the biggest selling and most talented musicians of the past 50 years come up with that utter, utter, shiite?! It's staggeringly incomprehensible. I can get my head around supersymmetric quantum physics easier than how they managed to come up with that atrocity:nono:

Lennon, his post Beatles stuff was imo much better than McCartney's schmaltz. I think Lennon was writing some good stuff again just prior to his death. McCartney really has done **** all of note since Band on the Run. He is responsible for Mull of Kintyre, which is a musical crime in my eyes. He also tried to get song writing credits for the Beatles songs changed to McCartney Lennon as he apparently had the most influence on the songs..obviously this only became apparent after Lennon was killed.

There is a fine line between heartfelt and trite and, although a brilliant songwriter, Wonder has stepped over this line just as often as McCartney. 'Isn't She Lovely' anyone? 'I Just Called to Say I Love You'?

Two awful songs. Nonetheless, I think its fair to expect something considerably better than Ebony and Ivory from a collaboration of McCartney And Wonder. Admittedly both were past their peak, but....jesus its a horrendous song.
