The rain is much needed to be honest especially for us gardeners and the farmers out there. Watering plants from the tap keeps them alive, rain makes them flourish, trouble is, it also makes the grass grow at 100 mph and the weeds love it too !!!!!!

Anyway, we're really still in the last knockings of spring...the seasons do seem to have all moved forward a month so spring is April, May and June so we really have the whole of summer to look forward to still.

Even with the amount of rain we have had the ground is still only wet at the top and hasnt gone down very deep to the roots of the plants. If we have some steady rain that will now be able to get through the top surface and some sun, the plants , and weeds will thrive and come on in leaps and bounds.

Farmers losing their crops and their animals having nothing to eat. Food prices going up as a result for everyone when we can ill afford it. Tossers.

eh? some weeding this morning in my garden shows that its wet through, sodden, soggy and wet so far down that a few of the taller roses and a young apple tree have just fallen over, I've had to re-stake them and tie them tight.

My alotment is soggy wet at the top but put a fork in and it is solid one depth down.

I can't remember a June as cold or showery as this one, so much for the drought!

I looked at the environment agency website last month to check on the water levels of the underground aquifers for our area. Even though we had a dry spring, they were showing as average to good for the time of year. So they weren't even worried about there being a drought this year.

According to the radio we were about 24 hrs from a hosepipe ban when the rain came. They also said it is vital for people to spike their lawns and make deep small holes in their gardens to allow the rain to seep through. They suggested driving a pole into the ground and the pulling it out in a number of places. Will do that witha broom handle between each cabbage and beans.

I'd rather believe the Environment Agency than the radio.

There were area's where the reservoir's were in danger, but most of our supplies come from underground aquifers so don't have evaporation. There was enough rain/snow this winter to top them up enough down here.
