in all seriousness, joey FLAIRTON has obviously burnt a lot of bridges (just when it appeared that he was at least TRYING to sort his head out) by getting needlessly sent off in a relegation decider (as CAPTAIN)...........i don't think he's actually as good as some like to make out, but he'd definitely be a top championship player, if he was under a manager who could ignore how much of a "melt" he is....gus isn't the type of manager that would even dream of touching him with a barge pole

What sense does he speak?

actually quite a lot if you're willing to filter out a fair amount of shit

not many footballers have had much to say about homophobia in the game plus his post-olympics rant, and (slightly ironically) the celebrity culture in football....for example

his problem is that he's very much quantity over quality

Like him or not (I'm in the latter category) he is a half decent footballer. Will be a problem to anyone who takes him on, but I'm sure somebody will feel the need to, at some point. Shame, really - if he just became out of work with no takers, it might prove to be a good warning to other lairy youngsters who think they can do anything, just because they're a bit useful at footie

Good footballer when he puts his mind to it; and obviously has a brain. Its just that you know that, one day, sooner or later, the said brain is going to disengage and he is going to behave like a complete twat, either on or off the pitch - or even both. So, despite the temptation: avoid; Gus, at all costs.

His article are well written and he comes across well

big thread on it here

Joey Barton talks sense alert

It's good work and it has been spell checked I agree, but it is hardly groundbreaking is it? The only reason it gets attention is because it is not what you expect from such a moron.

simply on ability he clearly is........like i said, not as good as some people make out (he was linked to ARSENAL not that long ago, he's not that great), but he'd definitely be a top championship player

just on ability...not mentality

Border country.East Preston.
I like the guy and would love to see him at the Amex. Sport needs more thoughtful characters like him. I'll be looking out for him at Marseille.

I would sign him on a pay as you play basis..put him on against Palace, with him ripping Judass lying face off for him, in the last minute with us 2 nil up.

Bloody good player, 100% on the pitch week in week out. Plays a mans game like he wants to win...properly wants to win, and doesn't give a flying f*** what anyone else thinks.

Sign him up.

Marseille have decided against - very sensibly.
As for thoughtful - any twat can quote from Wikipedia and Barton is just such a twat.
It takes another sort of "hero" to beat up on kids and brawl in the streets and on the football pitch..................... hail Joey Barton. Thug. :nono:

Would love to see Barton playing for Paulo Di Canio, there would surely be fireworks. Or lock him in the same room as Bullard and Bowyer, for a similar outcome.

Seriously though he should be made to honour his contract at QPR for free having stitched them up. Especially after their poor start to the new season, they could do with an on-form Barton. But on the other hand I can see why most would want rid of him from their Club. Someone will take a punt on him maybe on a pay per game basis because deep inside there is actually a decent footballer.

His tweets are cringingly self indulgent.

It's almost as if QPR aren't paying him 50k a week or whatever for a third of the season solely because he acted like a total twat. f***ing nob.

I believe its 70k. Yes 70K. Unbelievable for an average player.

His stats put him in the bottom third of Premiership players; 70k for a below average player.....hmmmmmm.
