I think we should have stuck with Chris Hughton, with these new players I believe the team's style of play would have evolved... but we didn't.
should we stick with Potter? No.
At the time it looked like Hughton had to go but now with much better players we are in a very similar situation. I think, if I recall correctly when Hughton went we had just won only 2 games in 18
Now with a much better team only 1 home win in 17! The Amex was, under Chris a difficult place to come to. I know the fact that there are no fans has changed the dynamics of home advantage.
However, Chris relied on Murray - we now have Maupay, Wellbeck, Trossard, Lallana, Connolly plus more who are capable of scoring. But they are not. Why not?
Bad tactics? Low on confidence? Both?
All of which points to the manager - his job to instil confidence and employ good tactics. In my opinion he has done neither.
We need a manager who can give us the solidity we had under Hughton and the flair we have Potter but can also give the players belief, a winning mentality, the will to fight and get the team scoring goals!
Chris was respected by players, pundits, by everyone! Potter's post match interviews are nothing short of ridiculous - I don't know anyone I have spoken to who rates Potter! I don't know anyone who doesn't resect Chris Hughton.
Ok Ok so we can't bring Chris back - but he fits at least part of the bill for what our new manager should be or come from - someone with premier league experience! As a player or manager.
Plus - The new manager needs to know what it takes to win! To fight and to believe!

11 pages and not one realistic suggestion, just dinosaurs, jokes, stabs in the dark and enthusiasm for managers who specialise in bottom of the PL at best.
If we are going to replace Potter can it at least be with someone we KNOW is likely to do a better job whilst changing the style and players again?

I'll let you know when Potters contract expires and we're begging him to stay rather than him leaving for AC Milan .

FFS Murray! Some of the suggestions really beggar belief. Howe, Pearson, Harry ****ing ‘show me the money and I’ll spend it wisely’ Rednapp.... All very uninspiring.
There’s a number of interesting prospects out there who are out of work but have broad experience and track record of success at the top level across Europe. For example,

No, that suggestion was about as serious as when I suggested Swanny. The Ernest style spelling of God should have given it away.
There have been some decent suggestions on here though so, as the intention of [MENTION=396]WATFORD zero[/MENTION] was actually for people to put their necks on the line I'll recap a couple and add one.
Billic - would certainly add the steel and fight that we are so badly missing. Whether he'd be down with the whole project and recruitment thing is, perhaps, doubtful. But certainly a better short term option than Potter IMO.
Jardim - good record of playing well with youngsters. Almost certainly wouldn't fancy it.
And my own....
Steve Cooper - since we have raided Swansea once and don't seem adverse now to going poaching, why not replace Potter with the man who has done better than Potter?

Not sure what's so funny about those options.
Carlos Q managed some of the world's biggest clubs, and did very well with Iran given the limited resources available to him. The football won't be attractive, but he will get results.
Pearson has experience at this levelz and started off well with Watford last season before the toxic environment at the club ruined things.

Wycombe have no right to be in the Championship, he’s taken the up two divisions in a short time period - with very little outlay... he’s a top manager imho. Sure he’s got a battle on, but the fight he and his team are showing against all the odds is putting our lot to shame.
I think he’d be brilliant, and not just because he’d look the part playing keyboards, hammond and mini moog synthesizer in Uriah Heep.

If Potter is to be replaced - and I don't think he should be - then the reason to replace him is to prevent relegation by any means necessary. If the crisis is that severe then the 'vision' will have to wait until next season and you get someone in who will pull the team up by the bootstraps and grind out results.
The problem is that there are few, if any, such coaches available.
To deal with some of the suggestions -
I will say it again - Benitez isn't coming to Brighton - £12m a year and a £25m buyout clause
Redknapp - is 73, hasn't managed in 3 years and said when he was sacked by Birmingham that it was his last job.
Queiroz - hasn't managed anything other than a national side in 12 years (and before that he was assistant for 4) - he is a part time coach and won't take a club job.
Martin O'Neill - trust me - as someone who has seen O'Neill up close for several years with the Irish team - you do not want to go there. A dinosaur if ever there was one and a cantankerous gobshite to boot.
Gerrard - look at it from his perspective - become a cult hero in the blue side of Glasgow by preventing Celtic making history (padding your cv in the process) - or - take a job where you could end up being relegated.
Frank - would you leave a club that is in the automatic promotion spot (and the semi-final of the EFL cup) to come and manage a team that could be going in the opposite direction?
There are three realistic options at this point - Howe, Bilic or Nigel Pearson. If you want to prevent relegation then Pearson is the best option - but the guy is an utter dipshit and a bully (coupled with the fact that he appears to have suffered long term effects from being infected with covid).
The reality is that Bloom committed to a certain process when hired Potter and he really has little choice but to stick with it until it plays out. It would be a major step backwards to sack Potter in a move to maintain PL status without any direction on what to do next season if the club survived. He really has no choice but to roll with Potter for better or worse. At the end of the season if the club survives then he can re-evaluate if Potter is the coach to take the team forward or if he needs to be replaced. If relegated then Potter will be sacked and Bloom needs to make a decision on what steps to take next.
The upside is that the team is good enough to bounce straight back up - yes several players would leave - White, Bissouma, Lampety, Lallana, Wellbeck and a couple of others (Dunk, Trossard) - and you could clear out a lot of the deadwood who are still around because you need a large squad (and bring in a substantial amount of money in the process - anything up to £100m). But there would be a really good squad left and you would have the likes of Molumby, Clarke, Tau, O'Hora, Ostigard, Gyokeres, Baluta, Mlakar, Hayden Roberts and the two Polish kids to come in and add to it. You could end up with a really good squad of young, developing players to go with Sanchez, Alzate, Connolly, Webster, McAllister etc. that could bounce straight back up and form the basis for a good PL squad (in that situation I think Ernie Howe would be a good choice to replace Potter).
By the way - if this was a couple of years down the line I would be touting Damien Duff as manager - the guy has been very impressive as a coach at Celtic and now as assistant manager with Ireland - the players who have worked with him have all spoken about how he has helped their game and what a good football brain he has.
