The captain should always be a defender as they can see the game from the back.

Greer is as good a choice as any

I have voted Sparrow because I think that the captain should be a midfielder and we have achieved most success with that i.e Nobby, Dodge and before that Glen Wilson, Dave Turner (I think)

You missed Danny Cullip - and he was :flounce:a defender!

I'd like to see a player who has been here a while get the role but Gus got it spot on with whatsisface (how easily I forget those who have departed!) so I trust he will pick the right man for the job, Murray anyone? Fat chance of that!

Anyone who thinks El-Abd or Elphick are DREAMING quite frankly. The only players in the middle of the park who will get it are Greer or Sparrow. Only other remote possibilities IMO are the two fullbacks Painter and Calderon. Personally, I would be absolutely amazed if Greer didn't get it.

I suspect Greer has been brought in to be Gus' envoy on the pitch.

I can't believe it's been drawn down to 2 players, with people already having formulated opinions based on part of a Burgess Hill friendly, and one player who hasn't joined yet!

exactly. I love how 99% of this board had not heard of Greer ever last season or before. Then in the play offs about 20 people saw him get sent off, and probably didnt realise it was him intil someone in the Argus mentioned it, and now we were chasing him, and finally got him, he is immense, a colossus, a beast, dont fcuk with him double hard bastard Scot who is a hero.

personally I dont recall him playing against us, where as some defenders I watch and think they were quite good.

I am not saying Greer is rubbish or anything, but I honestly dont remember ever seeing him play, so will not make a judgement on how good he is. But he has to be good if we have chased him for so long, and spent quarter of a million pounds on him upfront.

I bet Poyet hasn't even made his own mind up yet. I suspect he'll go for Sparrow, if only because Sparrow has proved he's got what it takes to get promoted.
