Who or what do you blame for the nations general apathy towards the Royal wedding?

Whilst only a minority will watch it live .

So, is this a minority in the way politicians do it? ie, the UK population is 61.8M, if 20M watch the TV coverage of it tomorrow (that's the current estimate) that counts as a minority? 20M is a pretty impressive TV audience in my book, and with the estimated worldwide audience over a billion, sure its a minority, but hey, a billion people, think about it, that is quite a lot.

But 20m watching a wedding *isn't* the same thing as 20m watching a sporting event. Afterall, it will be wall to wall coverage from about 9am onwards.

You only have to talk to people to see the vast majority couldn't give a toss about this wedding.

Certainly the case if the people you talk to are of a similar mind to yourself but no atter how many times you repeat your view there will be something approaching half a million people on the streets of London watching the ceremony surrounding the event tomorrow and everywhere I've been this week - Devon, Somerset, Birmingham, Worcester - there are street and house parties and the like being organised. I'm sure a lot of it results from media hype but I suspect there is a genuine desire for something to take them out of themselves and to make them happy and, as they say, everyone loves a good wedding (and a royal wedding is guaranteed to be high in the feel good stakes).
My missus will be glued to the telly along with my daughter-in-law and her family and me and my lad will enjoy a few beers. End of the day it's good news all round and I think that is how most people will take it.

The way I look at it even if 20m in the UK watch it live (and I think that's pushing it) then 40m will be doing something else. That's a lot of people to be doing something else especially when they've been given the day off work and school for this very one event, AND it's the future King and Queen getting married.

BTW, I'll be one of those watching half an hour and wishing the happy couple well and then consuming alcohol in the garden, weather permitting.

Come to my village, here in West Sussex, and talk to people, and you'll find that not to be the case here. Have you tried everywhere?

Get over it, some people are into it, some are not, FFS I'm not, I can't stand the whole f***ing charade, but how about you keep your generalisations to yourself? Or at least put it across as your opinion in a way that allows for reasoned debate, rather than a tirade about something you don't care for, when others clearly do.

What the f*** are you so angry about??

I simply raised a question. Where have I given a tirade? Where have I not allowed reasonable debate?

Of course the only evidence I can go on is from the people i know and come into contact with daily, and it just occured to me that really very very few of them care and i just wondered why?

Calm down dear.

We've had one bloke drop out (to go to aforementioned party) so there is a space on the tee to make up a fourball if you're interested.

If that is a serious offer, I thank you, but have some other things to do. Earlier in the week I was looking for someone to play with this weekend as I don't know many people who do. Out of interest, where are you playing ? In the last few minutes I have just filled in the application form to join Singing Hills GC so that I might get to play more.

Please don't believe all that guff. They are nothing of the sort.

People will still come to visit the crown jewels, Buck Palace, Windsor Castle and everything else we pay for long after the fawning lickspittles have been overcome and the spongers booted out.

:bigwave:

Yeah – I’ve always found the tourism argument hard to accept. When you look at the tourism rankings for 2009 the top two destinations – France and the US – are singularly lacking in the Royals department.

Yup, serious offer, 10:45, West Chiltington Golf Club. Singing Hills is lovely, well I think so, bit of a trek from here though, when we have a couple of decent ones on the doorstep so to speak.

Hopefully it will be a fine day for the event and the couple will enjoy many happy years together, many females will have a day discussing the fashions and the gents raising their glasses, added to the fact that we receive another long weekend it cant be bad.

I wasn't aware of any apathy. Things looking decidedly red white and blue in town; I shall be enduring the drizzle tomorrow for the processions, along with thousands of others!

Can we have a Royal Wedding smiley please?!

I guess these days people more look at it from the view point of "i'm struggling to make ends meet every week" and here they are having a 10+ million pound wedding.

I've noticed more and more interest amongst my work colleagues and friends. I think generally people feel it's a nice event to watch and a chance to have a drink or two and the day off!

Obviously the press overhype it but they overhype everything. Doesn't mean no one is interested.
