Meryl Streep just has to be one of the greatest actresses ever. She can play anyone, of any age. Alan Rickman's voice just sends me . . .

I can't believe there's been 43 posts and none of you have mentioned Morgan Freeman. Shawshank Redemption has to be in most peoples Top 20 films surely??

I like De Niro immensely too.

Ronnie Barker and Alan Rickman

Great shout, for both. For years I didn't comprehend and it is a bit still hard to believe that Fletch and Arkwright were played by the same man. Rickman also completely acted the socks off Kevin Costner in Robin Hood.

Another shout for Kevin Spacey too and Michael Sheen (brilliant as Blair, Clough and David Frost)

Agree with all of the above.

Personally always rate Jack Nicholson - at least when he is on form.
Also Jim Broadbent, as mentioned aabove, Brenda Blethyn and Timothy Spall.

And for old timers, Alec Guinness and sir John Gielgud. I think John Gielgud's Butler to Dudley Moore's Arthur was masterful

I don't have a favourite actor as such but I am enjoying the works of Tim Woodward at the moment.
