LI and AP - oases in the desert and not over reacting like most.

Of course we are desperately disappointed but it isn't the end of the tournament.

I had a feeling the French were going to do something as we were on the back foot defending so much trying to fend off wave after wave of attacks.

As the old song goes, Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again.

We'll get to the quarter finals at least.

If you are looking an on-field target then gerrard's moment of madness is the closest you'll come to it. It was a stupid backpass and an utterly reckless.

That said, England did play very well and would have been worthy winners had it not been for CLIVE TYLDSLEY'S premature gloating on ITV. As soon as he started banging on about Jacques Sanitini being reminded of this result at grounds up and down the country next season I knew the game was up.

The poor man just couldn't contain himself despite the fact we were under constant pressure in the second (well though we dealt with it), but you would have thought with all the last minute goal activity this season he could keep the champagne on ice until the final whistle.

if you want someone to blame, blame him.

Who do Swindon blame?

Wasn't it just one of those amazing things that ffotball does to us all.

But instead of being Brighton, tonight we were Swindon Town..

Yes.

No mistake was bad enough to be punished in that way; Sven got the tactics right; there were some fantastic individual performances and the team play was great.

Shit happens. I'm just pleased it happened at the group stage rather than in the final.

He got his starting tactics right.

Although I hope he has learnt his lesson that a game is not over until the final whistle.

No.

Barthez had gone before he kicked it.

It was right at diving height. Poor penalty.
Totally agree with this. I could NOT believe that the panelists were talking about the penalty as if it was well struck. It was a GASH penalty, the perfect height for a keeper. Leon Knight has scored about 10 this season - why is that? Because he concentrates on sticking it right in the bottom corner. As he says on Seagulls World after the Cardiff game: "I'm paid to score penalities. Really and truthfully, you shouldn't miss from 12 yards"

Dead right. Beckham is not a good penalty taker.

James should have saved the free-kick it was his side, otherwise what was the point of the wall. If he clips it over the wall then fair enough....

And the penalty.....your a keeper David !..use your hands, dont dive in with your legs.

And Gerrard....Row Z springs to mind. Cole should have taken charge before then as well....

Oh well.

Keep the Faith.

I don't think you can balme any one person for the defeat, yes eriksson maked a shocking sub, apparently it was heskey that gave away the free-kick (can't remeber if that's true or not but that was what i was told) heskey shouldn't have been playing so deep as i think the reason why he was brought on so that he could be used as a target man, and not back defending, beckham's penalty was crap, but the problem is we haven't got a great penalty taker in our team (like shearer). there are alot of if's and buts but at the end of the day the result stands and i just hope that the team has learnt from there mistakes and it doesn't happen again.

if you had to blame someone, although harsh,
- i would blame heskey for the donkey challenge for the freekick.
- Sven shouldnt have bought him on in the first place, so he is also at fault.
- gerrard makes his 1st mistake for england and it is COSTLY, cant blame him.
- pro footballer on 90k+ a week should be able to take and score a pen, so beckham could also be to blame (he is big enough to shoulder some of it too)
- David James had one of his best games for england, and if he didnt bring down va va voom, he prob would have scored anyway, you cant blame him

in conclusion it is all the fault of John Prescott for not deciding on Falmer yet:jester:

Rooney should not have been taken off.

Has anybody heard Sven's comments today as to why he was taken off?

bloody Heskey of course....... you cannot blame anyone else.... up to that point we were in control, under pressure yes, but they are the champions and ex world cup winners we were always going to be, Brazil would have been under pressure in the same circs............................. he has been cultivated in cretinism (made up word) by houllier ( a bloody Frenchman)..you can just see him tipping Sven the wink saying heskey is the man for the job etc etc.

im torn between beckham and gerrard but how many times have either of them let england down before?

but that said wat the hell was gerrard doing passing the ball back from there

and as sheebo says james should have got to the free kick in stead of standing and watching as if flew past

You can't lay the blame at any one person - too many if's and buts.

However, I'm going to. Stand up David James. Something pointed out on telly last night. Just before ZZ's free kick, Beckham was screeming at Ashley Cole to go back on the line to cover the left hand post. James told him to bog off. If Cole had been there, James would have had the side the free kick went covered.

Football is a team game and in all defeats there is an element of collective responsibility. No one mistake led inevitably to defeat.

The better question is surely who didn't contribute to the defeat. In answer to that I give you Ledley King for starters.
