That's exactly what I said in the opening post. Tell me how to do it with the current NSC poll options

No idea, never had the urge to do one, less so one asking which of a brilliant back 3 is ‘weakest’. If it had been ‘who is the shittest striker ?’ I reckon you’d get more voting 😂😂

I thought we had 5 CB’s in the 1st team squad and any one’s weakness is countered by another’s strength. It’ll be interesting to see what GP thinks is his strongest backline when Lamptey & March are fit to return.

I've never in my life supported a team where our third best centre back gets selected for England (and rightly so)

For someone who worshipped Alex Dawson, Eddie Spearitt and Stuart Henderson (who never gets a mention but I'm glad to see he's still going) it takes a little bit of getting used to ???

The ‘weakest’ is way too simplistic and tabloid for NSC.....no?

Anyway, breaking it up a bit........

Dunk the best at defending in the air (despite an average 1st half and last two games this season.)

Dunk the best at defending on the deck.

Dunk best at scoring.

Dunk best at long passes.

Dunk best at role model leadership.

Webster best with both feet.

Webster second best at defending and scoring in the air.

Webster best at vocal leadership.

Webster second best at progressing the ball forward and short passing.

White the quickest.

White has the best shot (with feet).

White best at pass and move.

White best at controlling the ball and finding space in a congested space.

White has the most potential.

White second best at long passes.

White second best at tackling on the deck.

Burn is the tallest.

When Liverpool were scouting Ben White, the scout made the observation that he was weak in the air. Quite a disadvantage for a centre back. That said, every other aspect of his game is rather good, and he's the one in the England squad.

Whilst on the subject of CB’s how is Matt Clarke doing these days, do we think he will be in the stripes at some point?

Good luck to Clarke getting in this defence.

I think he’ll need someone to leave to have any chance. Even the excellent Veltman may have a challenge when Lamptey is back.

This is the worst poll i've seen on North Stand Chat .... (amid fierce competition).

Would sooner take part in a poll about which of my children I like the least

I suspect Clarke was a relegation hedge. Loan him out and he comes straight back if we go down and any one of the normal starting three move on.

The next White is the most interesting, although with only 3 contenders I'm a little concerning the club is slacking off regarding stated aim of owning all centre backs before 2030.

I always tell my children that if they ask who my favourite is and I tell them that I haven't got one, what I actually mean is it's not them

Not voting as I'd put them all pretty equal myself......and it's also how they work as a group.

Couldn't you have just asked people to rank them 1/2/3 rather than use another negative connotation ?

Not voting for exactly the same reasons. And they're all different.

Lewis Dunk has the worst facial hair.

I'm glad I didn't do this thread, one poster in particular would have choked on his Quattro Formaggio. :lolol:.

Dunk is the best.
Webster will be the best soon.
White will eventually be the very best, and for longer (although not with us)

Now strap in for this hot take:-

When White and Webster collect the ball on the edge of our box.
Then carry it forward.
Beat, or play round, 3 or 4 opposition players.
Get to the edge of the other penalty area.

Well, when that happens, they both need to be better at passing.

The world's greatest ever first world moan. :lolol:

All of this.

When they go on their runs, they always get to that point... "Ok what shall I do now?"
With Webster you can almost always tell, when his last touch will be. There's a sudden loss of confidence.

White, but that's purely through inexperience, he has progressed as the season has gone on

Shit poll.

These are a defensive unit and compliment each other. All three have been magnificent this season as has Veltman, as has Sanchez. In the absence of Lamptey and March for a large part of the season, we have had to play some very unlikely characters as wing backs. The defence has coped magnificently.

One of the joys of the bounced threads is reading some of the knee jerk reactions after we have lost. There are some glorious comments about Webster in his first season in the premier league, if you said it you own it, that is all I have to say on the matter.

Webster has been commanding in the air, strong in the tackle and hugely influential when we are in possession. The tireless runs he constantly makes to receive a simple pass, makes those around him look good.
Dunk has been a defensive rock and his goals have been a welcome bonus this season, what a captain.
White, has pace anticipation and makes time when he has the ball. It is easy to dwell on the small number of mistakes he has made in his first season and too easy to forget about some stunning tackles, great anticipation and absolute quality cover. Name me one other player who could have covered so brilliantly for Pascal Gross playing at wing back?

A final word for Dan Burn. Earlier in the season, when we were conceding from too many set pieces, a number of people questionned Dan's place in the team and his heading ability. I think he finished the season particularly strongly in this area. Leeds was a great example, where they were taking short corners and looking to over load the back post. Dan won everything often out numbered three to one, but this wasn't the only game he contributed defensively in the air.

I think this will be very interesting. Ostigard feels like he's the closest, and he certainly has the confidence for it. Van Hecke seems one step behind and may be better suited to a Championship loan. Roberts is an undoubted talent (and his dad reckons he should be in the 1st team already) but similarly, I think he needs a Championship loan.

If White does go, we'll only have Dunk, Webster, Veltman, Burn, Clarke, Duffy, Ostigard, van Hecke and Roberts. I smell another 2 or 3 centre back signings in the summer to keep our head above water!
