Interesting seeing the early votes for Sinatra as ol'Blue Eyes himself always said that Tony Bennett was a far better singer than he ever was. Freddie Mercury was probably the greatest front man but not the best voice.

I have to side with Sam Cooke as having such a pure voice that worked across both gentle songs and more upbeat numbers.

There's no doubting for me whether you liked the style of music or not, The Carpenters and Abba knocked every pretender at the time into a cocked hat. These acts were so far ahead of the game it was not a fair contest.

Although the answer is probably Karen Carpenter, Christine McVie wins in terms of songwriting and being able to sing.

Honourable mention for Frank Black, who seemingly murdered his vocal coach and ate her lungs for extra volume.

Seeing as NSC can't come close to deciding who the greatest rock band are, let's try greatest singer.

I'm going for Sinatra, maybe not the greatest voice but for delivery and timing not many can compete imo.

A mention for Bob Dylan if only for his intonation and delivery if not the voice per se.

I could listen to either of the above all day and night...I often do

Lee Marvin, in Paint your wagon
