I don't get Lewes at all. You stand there and watch the procession then everyone goes in a different direction and I'm never sure where to go. I asked someone last year who told me that Cliffe was best but I couldn't go to that as it was all ticket and had sold out! I ended up at the chaviest bonfire in the world with loads of pissed schoolkids getting off with each other.

Organised display GOT to be better than fireworks at home.

Bought a £25 or so box the other year of Stoats fireworks or some such. Kids bundled up in coats and hats. Man of the house strides purposefully off down the garden clutching box, instructions and matches.

Kids and I strain our eyes eagerly into the darkness.

Another 5 mins - *Paf*

Another 5 mins - *twinkle*

Man of the house returns out of darkness clutching empty box.

I agree if you don't know what is happenning its a nightmare, I remember going a few times in my teens and early twenties usually on a Saturday on the way home from a Brighton game and had the same sort of experience.

However, once I met my wife who is Lewes born and bred (her mum still lives in the centre of town) it all became clear and I now really enjoy the event.

If you go to Lewes Bonfire it really helps if you understand the history of the event and plan your evening rather than just follow the crowds who are probably as lost as you are.

f***ing hate fireworks, hate Guys, hate bonfires, hate it all. I hate this time of year with f***ing Trick or treat and pathetic efforts in shops to coin in more cash from stupid people buying cruddy fireworks and shite halloween costumes. Absolutely pathetic. f*** them all off. Hate them all.

Did our own last year. My step-daughter had deceided she'd grown out of barbie's so we spent most of the evening tying barbie doll heads to rockets and sending them up to barbie heaven.

We're having some friends around to watch everyone else's fireworks from our front garden, which should offer a splendid view of the proceedings, being perched precariously above Preston Park station.

Mulled wine, crispy potatoes and sausages will round off the evening in a most satisfying way hopefully.

Hate to think what's going to happen tonight.

Earlier this week some local kids set fire to a couple of sofas that had been dumped, near the woods where I live.

Also, having to watch out for stray fireworks as I come home from work in the dark. Have to go past the wood to get back to where I live. It is pitch black (no streetlighting in the area of wood), you can hear kids mucking about in the darkness, but you can't see them.
