[Misc] Who has got an unusual HOBBY?

My hobby turned into a part time business, I currently have about 25 thousand of the things and still buy more....
Apparently, among other things I’m a deltiologist!

My dad (now passed), born and bred in Eastbourne, had a very fine collection of Eastbourne postcards (which now belongs to my sister and I, but sadly sits packed away in her loft).

He was a stamp dealer by profession (or, to give him his full title, Philatelist and Postal Historian).

Apparently, this isn't creepy at all and there is quite a market for it.
Never seen the attraction myself, until we walked through the small cemetery in Gibraltar. Seeing the inscriptions from the Battle of Trafalgar with the ages and occupations of the souls lost, really makes you stop and think

Believe it or not I was! My mate posted this memory today, must've been about 18 at the time. We used to turn up half pissed from the night before and there'd be blokes twice our size that would kick us off the pitch most the time!

It took lockdown to realise i live 2 mins from this huge open/wooded space. There's parts where you could be in the lake district (without the lakes)

It was one of the dads VINTAGE kits..
This was at Waterhall, I think we lost 8-0 and I was in The Argus as man of the match coz I pulled off about 19 worldie saves!

We played at Preston Park once and accidentally got put up against a team like 7 leagues above us. We scored first and were buzzing, we went on to lose 20 - 2. I think every player apart from their keeper scored..

I've done the same. Traced our family back to the Norman invasion too. I'm a direct decedant of a Norman Archer Captain Robert de Blakeland (my surname is Blake). Found out we used to have a manor in Wiltshire but lost it when my ancestors sided with the Royalists in the civil war. Damn it!!! If it wasn't for those pesky Roundheads I could be landed gentry, securing Tory PPE contracts and living a life of riley!

Due to his profession, the PC’s could be interesting especially locally. It’s a real shame they are stuck in an attic,
I collect Littlehampton / Lyminster RP (Real photograph) cards and regularly pay £25 each for them so she could have quite a stash!

For about 20 years, I enjoyed finding forgotten coal duty boundary posts and restoring the cast crests before putting them back in situ repainted in their original colours.

A corner of relatively recent English history that’s been pretty much forgotten about.

I only really stopped when travelling distances became excessive to discover new ones.

Never heard of these before - so have had to look them up. My job (rights of way historical stuff) automatically involves things like mileposts and signposts, so this is obviously of interest to me. Not quite a member of the milestone society, but not far off!

I fix and use old fountain pens (generally pre-1950) and have recently started basic restoration and fixes on old watches too. I really like the idea that something made 100 years ago as a functional item can still be used today.

Snaffled myself a mauve/red Mabie Todd Snakeskin last week, which wasn't described as such. A night's soaking to get the section and solidified sac out - and now in tip-top condition (one with a hard rubber lever, and fine semi-flex number 2 nib). Very pleased with myself. Took notes with it during a zoom meeting today - which is quite a contrast between old and new technology.

As a kid I collected WW1 & WW2 artifacts - my parents still have a big box of stuff in their loft that I managed to get over the years.

Mrs Blue3 ex husband was a collector of all things WW2 German some of which he passed onto his son, for years we had this collection of Nazi medals and badges in the loft it would make my skin crawl the thought of this associated with such an evil regime being under our roof, I was secretly really pleased when stepson decided he didn't want to be associated with then and disposed of the lot
