I'm sure Stanley Matthews or Stan Mortensen played at the Goldstone. And Danny Blanchflower?

Unlikely.

Spurs played Lucerne and Swedish club Oysters at the Goldstone. Wimbledon played Turkish side Bursaspor, and Beitar Jerusalem.

Ahh I stand corrected however I think that was the first season of the Intertoto and Bordeaux got to the final of the UEFA cup with Zidane playing.

In a pile of football shirts
was the most famous, well known player ever to have graced the goldstone turf

Lots of great names mentioned on this thread, thanks LB, also Frank W was great, and I am sure seeing great Albion players in the 60s was fantastic, even if ZZ did grace the turf, none of them were are famous and well known as David Beckham. There really is no further debate on the matter. Like him or lothe him, there has never been a more well known and famous player anywhere in the history of the game, let alone on the Goldstone Ground. Sad to say, even Pele is eclipsed on this one.

That is not so say there haven't been better players (even at the Goldstone), or that Beckham isn't known for things other than his football, but that was not the question.

I saw Peter Beagrie play there once, for Stoke. He scored and did his gay somersault.
