Not sure which African teams are through but it could get very interesting up here

Ancestors is "birthright" - and indeed the only legal birthright to Irish citizenship, being born here means nothing - in Irish law, not obscure. Ditto France I'd assume.

And I've no idea, as many of the "non-French" sounding French players likely were born there.

It is an acknowledged fact that Jack Charlton started by playing players whose grandmothers etc distance removed made them elligible France have done the same with African colonies that were once under French rule. We have done the same in cricket with South Africans especially but does that make it right.
