[Football] Who do Celtic fans think they are ?

Come on, that really is the most chippy drivel. It is nothing to do with arrogance, just objective assessment. Winning the league for Celtic in the last few seasons has been a cakewalk, and as such not worthy of high praise or ludicrous 'treble treble' talk. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm certainly not one of these 'Premier League is always the best' types. There have been times since 1992 when that has clearly not been the case, and I'm not even sure it is now. But it is competitive. If you are Man City and you win the league, you have beaten Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs to the title and come through plenty of other challenging matches where you could drop points. That simply isn't the case with Celtic for the last 8 years.

And there is no point in saying 'If they played in England with the same money'. They don't, and they won't. Ever. Leicester can buy players Celtic could only dream about, and have a fixture list Celtic would kill for. That's why he has gone. The ungrateful reaction from Celtic fans is truly staggering, and I suspect the long-term effect is that other quality managers from England/Premier League will think twice about going there.

If you read the rest of the thread you'll see that I am not arguing with any of your assessment there, save maybe for your final sentence which I would take issue with.

Indeed. You have to go back 34, yes 34 years for the last time one of the Old Firm were not Scottish Champions!

In England, during the same period, 9 different clubs have won the title.

Indeed that is true but the fact remains that Greater Glasgow is the only major (sizewise) city in Scotland has the potential support to sustain two major football clubs. Edinburgh is approximately half the size, with Aberdeen 225,000 and Dundee 148,000. Other clubs in Scotland have a potential fanbase of anywhere between 15,000 and 40,000 (this without accurate research).

That is perhaps a conclusive answer to your post !

Winning the League in the past seven or eight years has indeed been a breeze for Celtic in the absense of Rangers, ( see previous post about potential support ) , through their liquidation in 2012 on the back of the failure of the holding company. Rangers at the time were well run enjoying Champios League finance each year but were compromised by that holding company screwing them by adding them as collateral for loans.

I agree The Triple Triple, as a concept is indeed laughable when there was no reasonable opposition. A bit like celbrating Albion's year on year victory in winning the Sussex Senior Cup if indeed the Albion played a 'senior' squad !

The 'ungrateful' reaction of Celtic fans is not only disgusting ( wishing Brendan Rodgers [ https://www.followfollow.com/forum/...ie-in-your-sleep-brendan-rodgers.67668/unread - Leicester helicopter etc.) , but is not untypical as, looking at the news over the past few years, they have booed the UK troops at Arsenal on, I can't remember, either Remembrance day or Armed Forces Day, so no great surprise there as their fans sing pro IRA songs. Also, research recent abuse convictions linked with their 'boys club'

Rangers, it has to be acknowledged, are a loyalist club, (their fans often refer to their team as ' the Queen's Eleven' , they are also a Unionist supporting club ( in favour of the Union of the Crowns & UK and Ireland ) and perhaps anti SNP ( Scottish Government ) who are very nationalistic I understand.

I get dogs abuse from fans of both Glasgow clubs on Twitter whenever posting anything to do with their respective finances but ignore it. Rangers fans thinks I'm a Celtic fan because of my name (my old man was in the RAF and my great Uncle Arthur was a POW in Germany in WWII) and Celtic fans think I'm a Rangers fan for saying that the financial gap would disappear if Rangers had a good 12 months due to the disproportionate influence of Champions League money on the Scottish game. The obsession of a section of the fanbase with each other and constant whatabouterry is beyond comprehension but as with all clubs there are plenty of good fans too.

All fans have nitwits in the fanbase, I remember some of ours going disco because Brian Horton left us to manage...Port Vale.

Whose a bigger club now Nob, whose a bigger club now...

I can’t blame BR for wanting to give the PL another go. Far better football, players, opponents, and a manager need a serious plan (beyond having a far, far better squad) to win.

We shouldn’t be tied to hyperbolic comments made in the past, so ungrateful Celtic fans get over it.

There must be a point when a two team league becomes a complete bore

He did smile when Peter Taylor’s Albion beat Port Vale in a promotion celebration at Vale Park and the “should have stayed with the big club” chant was directed at him. Loved Nobby

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
He smelt the money. And he had achieved everything he could have achieved at Celtic, so had plateaued there. They are never going to amount to much in Europe, so he wanted a bigger, better (and more lucrative) challenge.

Leicester (anywhere but Scotland) [emoji857][emoji1782]

I think your post is symptomatic of the arrogance, and let's face it, cosy English superiority complex that pervades a fair few football fans this side of the border. The inconvenient truth many ignore is that if Celtic and Rangers played in England, with the revenue they would generate, even before they kicked a ball in anger, they would be right up there with the best in the EPL. They are massive clubs. Leicester, like us, are medium-sized clubs that without the money of our chairmen would be Championship at best. There's a reason why the EPL chairmen voted against the two Scottish giants coming down to the EPL once they thought about it properly - they realised how it would reduce their share of the money pot.

The arrogance goes both ways there are plenty of big clubs sitting in the Championship right now and both Celtic and Rangers have had the opportunity to do what Cardiff did and join the English league. Rangers could have decided to fight their way up the English league rather than the scottish when they got kicked out very recently. However unlike the top welsh clubs they have decided that they would not want to risk not wining a title for 18 years and compete in a harder league (this has happened to Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and City). Its much easier to win every year and claim superiority.

Brendan "I'll give my life for Leicester" Rodgers is a weirdo. Mad stare on the bloke. Celtic better off without him.

Bit of a shifty leg over merchant, a la wally-in-the-brolly, too.

He'll be sacked at Leicester within 2 years, and then it will be a tumble down the leagues.

Rodgers is taking all the grief but the underlying angst is not with him it’s the realisation that clubs like Leicester are now a more attractive proposition than managing Celtic and it is another huge nail in the SPL coffin.

The SPL has been in decline for years and Celtic and Rangers who once had playing sides that some top flight English sides could only dream of are now littered with premier league rejects and championship quality players.

It must be hard watching a once great giant and the league they play in drop to the levels we see today and mid table less fashionable clubs pinching managers from your biggest clubs.

That’s the real reason behind the backlash and understandable but then reality bites doesn’t it

So did Rangers ever have the opportunity of joining the English Leagues seven years ago ? Please provide evidence of what you are saying !! - Cardiff City joined the EFL when ? I don't think you know what you are talking about

Irritates me the amount of time given over to Scottish football. The results are read out straight after the Premier League on the BBC, why? Its a very poor standard and apart from the BBC and Jim White very few people in this country give a toss

Agree with this. Truth hurts. Can't stand Celtic and Rangers and all the sectarian sh*te that goes with it.
