This makes an interesting listen - Paul Barber giving an insight into a) the Caicedo deal twists and turns and b) how the club makes decisions about its young players

As of today Brighton, not even close

Chelsea have a very good player, who is still mainly potential and paid £115 million for him and tied him to a 8 + 1 year deal on massive wages.

A lot can go wrong with a player - injury/form/bigger club is too much etc etc.

Chelsea have spent £230 million on 2 CM with less than 100 European League games between them.

There's no doubting MC's talent and he has to be considered one of the best (talents) to wear the Albion shirt. However, the way he acted (even for a young man being poorly advised) during the unseemly transfer saga part 1 with Arsenal indicated that he was more motivated by cash than anything else. I get it that players want to secure their future with a big cheque, but the greats perform beyond their bank balance. We'll see if Moises can lift his game to the levels his trajectory was heading but it maybe Todd's ugly machine has found another victim...

With 20/20 hindsight the answer to the OP is “no one”.

Caicedo’s form has dropped off a cliff. We’d probably be where Villa are with him and Ali Mac.

Though both MC and TB’s bank accounts have done well, so money is the real winner here.

You don't win anything in January.

We're potentially in for the greatest 6 months in Albion history without Moises AND with money in the bank.

I just think if he’d gone Liverpool he’d be flourishing myself…
