So the speed of sound in dry air at sea level and 20 °C is 343 m/s. If someone in the North Stand starts a song, by the time the people down the South, West, East corners hear, there will be a delay, and then to compensate it gets quicker. The speed of sound slows down in cold/wet weather too.
Either that, or some people are dicks and deliberately speed it up.
