I bet if you asked most neutral fans who they think you're talking about if you say 'the Albion', they would say West Brom.

Laughing Bluebird, as a neutral Fan what Club do you think of when we say 'The Albion' ?

I think of West Brom. That's mainly down to Jasper Carrott and Frank Skinner!

Mind you, I've heard other Cardiff fans refer to West Brom as 'Albion' on numerous occasions, whereas I've only ever heard people up here refer to Brighton as 'Brighton'.

if someone were to ask you 'who are united playing this evening?', you would (methinks) immediately assume they were talking about manchester united.
but do west brom have a similar grip on the 'albion' franchise. they are probably (but not undoubtedly) the bigger club but do you feel that when 'the albion' is mentioned, whoever does so needs to be more specific?

Surely if someone was refering to Manchester United they would ask "Who are the scum playing tonight?"

West Brom are older than us and were founder members of the Football League.

Albion is from the Latin "alba" from the white cliffs of southern England. West Bromwich are just cheating using a name reserved for the south coast and fit only for Brighton to Worthing, Dover, Eastbourne, with all the Albion pubs and the Albion brewery in the past (at Shoreham). Our away kit should, of course, be white with slimline shorts

William Blake put the Albion into poetry when he was in Sussex.

If I remember right did we not get a trainer when we started up who was with WBA before us, and he had some say in naming the club.

I might be wrong though, Tim Carder HELP.

The Baggies were, of course, originally known as West Bromwich Strollers.

As for the question raised by perseus - is there an East Bromwich? - the answer is NO.

"The settlement was originally known as Bromwich, a name in use by the time of Domesday Book and suggesting a village where broom grew. It was becoming known as West Bromwich by the early 14th century, probably to distinguish it from Castle Bromwich and Little Bromwich, both in Aston". (British History Online)

For a very short period, I used to work in Castle Brom, but I'd hardly call it Aston.

My great great great grandmother was born in West Brom.
