I've got no problem with it, can only be good for the town to have our name mentioned anywhere. BUT if the fans don't want it then neither do I.

They don't a monkey's about their fans.

If they did they'd consolidate their Conference South position, budget accordingly and improve their facilities for their existing supporters.

Instead, the facilities remain as poor as any in the league, while the club splashes out on an almost full professional side, and they won't be far off the top spenders in the division.
I would say their facilities are one of the WORST in the Conference South with temporary stands, portaloo's no parking no proper boardroom (only a container with windows) a pitch with a ridiculous slope on it.(even had a match called off last Saturday)
As you say in your post its just a rich mans plaything and IF they were promoted the ground is nowhere near up to standard for Conference National Prem

I'm afraid your wrong. If they didn't miss from 5 yards out against Boreham wood last May.

They would of been in the national league now. The national league haven't come out and said their ground isn't up to standard.

Football league is another matter though. A completely different ballgame!!

As normal, ignoring the obvious question of why they pump huge cash into the playing side with no investment in the facilities? Why all this ambition about another promotion when they're facilities are 2 leagues below the standard they're currently at.

They've probably got the most expensively assembled squad in the division - but they can't improve the toilets...

Agree with your comments on the ground, it is poor and I have seen better county league grounds and pitches, I know they were county league not so long ago, but apart from putting in some old seating from Withdean not much has been done.
Newhaven have a better pitch and ground.

The home match on Saturday was called off at 1.28 PM ( announced on Twitter) The ref turned up at 1-15 PM and said part of the pitch was frozen.
Two tweets from the official Whitehawk Twitter account before 10AM said the match was on, both saying no pitch inspection was required.

Just read through all 7 pages and the overriding comments I have seen is 'the fans'. Less than a decade ago they were averaging somewhere in the region of 30/40 per game, sometimes less. So what 'fans' should they ask? They've jumped on the bandwagon in the past few years. Used to enjoy the annual trip to Whitehawk in the old county league days when at EP.

Eastbourne Borough used to be the 'fourth' team in Eastbourne behind Town, United and Shinewater. I don't believe there was much opposition from the other senior sides. When they did change names they kept the nickname Sports. So whether Whitehawk change or not I am sure they will still be The Hawks. As for re-branding, I couldn't give a stuff if they do or not. Not really important.

Have the plans for the ground development been submitted yet ? ???

Or is there a plan to move to Withdean when they become a Brighton club rather than a Whitehawk one ? ???

Great point from a pure marketing standpoint. Whatever they change to is likely to clash with something, so no point creating that confusion and losing what brand they have.

Very true. I was thinking Brighton Whitehawk - BWFC - but then that's Bolton Wanderers......

I do hope our dear old friend John Catt is aware of these plans and getting his preparations in place for another protest.

And the plans have been shelved for another year

http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14226909.Whitehawk_drop_plans_to_change_name_to_Brighton_City_FC/

Whitehawk have dropped plans to change their name to Brighton City FC.The club announced late this afternoon they had withdrawn their application to change their name from next season following discussion with fans.
Pressure had grown on the club this week with more than 1,400 fans signing an online petition opposed to the move.

Brighton and Hove Albion were also in opposition to the plans, having stated they were admanant they did not want another team using the name Brighton.
A previous application to change their name had been turned down by the Football Association, amid objections from Albion.
It appeared earlier this week the club were determined to press on with a second attempt to push the move through with the FA.
However, there has now been been abrupt U-turn with chairman John Summers saying he has listened to fans.
Summers said: “I made a point of standing on the terraces with The Ultras yesterday at the Chelmsford match to engage with them first hand and they made it abundantly clear to me that, although they understood the need to embrace the city, they dismissed the name ‘Brighton City’ as their preferred choice out of hand.
“It was good to be amongst them and listen to their views personally and I thank them all for their input yesterday.

“Nobody should have had any doubts about the club’s aspirations. All of the investors and members had voted for it, however we have listened to the fans.
“They have made it very clear to us that if we are changing our name they prefer other options such as ‘Brighton Whitehawk’ or ‘Brighton East End’ so we will all have a beer together and work to build the club.”

Vice chairman Nigel Thornton added: “It was very brave of John to leave the boardroom and go down and speak to the fans man to man on the terraces. Not many people would have had the nerve to do that and I admire him for that.
“This is an exciting time for the club, we have grown very fast and we know that to continue this growth we have to make some difficult decisions. The proposed name change has injected a huge passion back into the club, now we all need to agree our next step and stick together to take the club forward.”

Whitehawk seem to be in meltdown at the moment. Sacked the manager, lost on penalties to Worthing in the Sussex Senior Cup midweek, hadn't won any of their last seven matches in the league before today and have just been thrashed 6-0 by bottom side St Albans City.
