Spot on!

And the figures being paid to certain players are way north of £200!

thats what i heard the going rate was around christmas last season

another team to watch out for splashing the cash is haywards heath - they have spent a shit load on a new pitch and are also paying hefty money apparently - and they are only in county three!

It would be logical for Whitehawk to try for a higher level with the prospect of using Withdean for their homegames in a couple of season tim, by which time they could be quite high up the non league scale.
That's not the plan. The plan is to build a stadium on the current Whitehawk site. Problem is, where are the fans going to come from? The average gates of around 50, its an arse to walk to on damp dark nights, parking is not going to be possible (the car park and road fills up quick with the 50 the get there now), so it just doesn't make sense why they are doing it.

I hope it doesn't but it will all end in tears when the money men discover that the fans are not there to take the club forward, and with the like of Lewes and then Withdean becoming available when we move out, I think its just a one or two season play thing for some people with money burning holes in their pockets, and I think in a few season time, Whitehawk will be either in County 3, or there will be a bigger caravan park then at present on the current site.

They spent huge money in the second half of last season, before as rumours go shafting the players when they missed out on promotion.

Problem is paying bug bucks in county football doesn't guarantee sucess. It certainly helps, but players switch clubs season by season, going where the extra fiver is, and dont give a shit about the clubs they play for.

That's why i doubt if Haywards Heath will run away with it, if they even go up. Whitehawk oin the other hand, are spending serious dough, on quiality players, and if those players performed at 30% they'd still waltz the county league.

But dont we have to put Withdean back as it was when we leave? The original stand alone maybe enough to accomodate all the fans but I doubt the capacity would be enough to satisfy Conference requirements and by which time they will need to go to the council to get planning permission to reupgrade withdean and this time the council are likely to say no when there is a perfectly suitable stadium at Falmer. If they have big ambitions then they will end up sharing with us if its allowed

As has been said before they may well fly up the leagues but they will be leading to being another Lewes as soon as they hit Conference. How much I wonder would it cost to get their ground to even Conf South standards?

One thing that may be interesting is lets just say TB gets his wish and we get to the premiership and are sold out every game, could some of the fans who cant get tickets end up going watching Whitehawk just to get some football to watch? They could benefit from our success

That is my point why build a new ground which will cost a fortune and never be a viable proposition when there will be a decent stadium by their standards available within Brighton already and the council will be looking for new landlords unless of course we ground shared with Whitehawk and used Withdean for home reserve matches and training to cut the costs for all.

whitehawk will NEVER be able to attract the sort of support to sustain anything above county one. the majority of football fans in the city who want to watch live football are going to pick the albion, and if not them then it is a simple train journey to lewes

when langley were in the county league, they were still averaging between 150-200 for league games, which showed the support was there. whitehawks ground is going to need a major overhaul, and the money men will soon realise that it is going to be more trouble than its worth attempting to get them up the pyramid - which is going to leave them following in the footsteps of saltdean and peacehaven and falling down the leagues

if somebody wants to attempt to "do an eastbourne", then it is probably one of the most bizare and poorest choices to try and do it with whitehawk - there are plenty of other teams with far greater potential than them who could sustain football at a higher level if it is done in the right way

i think whitehawk will win the league - and even if they dont, im certain that if the ground can be got up to ryman standard they wont be in the county league next season. horsham ymca went up last year without winning the league, and the quality of players they are going to have coming in should secure them the invite to progress. its when they get into the ryman and are still playing infront of crowd of 50 people that things will become interesting

haywards heath are the best example of money not working - a big town and a relatively big club that has paid decently in the past yet still hasnt got anywhere. compare that to their neighbours st francis and their rise through the leagues and it just goes to show that money isnt the be all and end all at that level of football

If Whitehawk are doing well they could attract those Brighton/Hove based football fans who at the moment travel up to Lewes or over to Eastbourne to see a game when the Albion are playing away up north. Might double the crowd.
