He told The Argus: “The silent majority are understanding of what we are doing.

“If you analyse the people who are making this contribution (petition) it is North Stand Chat, people all over the country, people from Hull who have a gripe with their owners, people in Dubai as well as more recent fans – and that is not discounting traditionalists who think Whitehawk is best – but ultimately we do think we are representing the silent majority.

Thanks for the mention of Dubai expats, Mr Summers!

It's reassuring to see that our opinions on proposed club name changes taken without proper consultation of the primary stakeholders, Whitehawk's supporters, are still valid despite geographical location.

I've signed it now.

"He told The Argus: “The silent majority are understanding of what we are doing."

But isn't the proper definition of 'the silent majority' actually 'the people I can't hear because I'm not listening"?

......and, just out of interest, since when are we supposed to have had a 'friendly rivalry' with Whitehawk?

What they did to get on the footballing map is a name change to

East Brighton Park go past the Amex on the Falmer Road then turn right at the lights go left at the next lights down Wilson Avenue and we're on the left not in Whitehawk at all rangers city

I hope they jog on back to the county leagues before too long. I've got the square root of sod all sympathy for anyone connected to the club after that statement.

Most Whitehawk fans only seem to have jumped on the bandwagon after the owner bought his way through the leagues, and now they're trying to preserve the moral high ground over the name of the club they've supported for about 5 seconds.

Give me a break.

Of course there are Albion fans on the anti-name change petition, Mr Summers. Not because we're worried about 'your' club stealing our thunder (some chance.....) but because as fellow football fans we think the way you are disregarding the views of Hawks fans is out of order and we are showing our solidarity! Showing solidarity is something Brighton fans will always do, given our history. Your attitude (I 'own' this club, I'll do what I like) is sadly reminiscent of that of a certain Bill Archer all those years ago. No, I'm not comparing you to Archer. You're trying to do your best for the club - I don't think anyone doubts that. But you're doing it the wrong way.

And of course fans from all over the country have signed the petition for the same reason. Especially Hull fans, because their chairman wants to do the same as you,and they stand in solidarity too. We aren't doing anyone's 'dirty work', we are standing together as we did in the Nineties. And you stood with us then, didn't you? Because you're an Albion fan too. I'm sure I saw you at some of our meetings :)

And many of us have a big soft spot for what is happening at Whitehawk, the way so much positive coverage is coming the way of an area, your manor, which has had so much bad press over the years. You should be rightly proud of that. Why should the name Whitehawk scare off investors? The Ultras and the culture surrounding them are transforming the club, and that in turn will have an effect on the image of the area. Take it forward!

We live in the age of modern football, where fixtures are constantly being shifted at Murdoch's whim without a moment's thought for the fans. Saturday 3pm kick offs are becoming an endangered species. For me the one redeeming feature of that is the chance to see the Hawks, stand with the Ultras, drink some lovely Brighton Bier, make a racket and experience football as it used to be and should be. We'll never forsake the Albion, but we'll come when we can, because what's happening at Whitehawk is brilliant. Don't kill the spirit just as it's really growing with a name change and rebranding - then it'll just be modern football at a lower level.

What's happening at the Hawks is a breath of fresh air. Schalke 04 isn't Gelsenkirchen City. Benfica isn't Lisbon City. Feyenoord isn't Rotterdam City. Whitehawk doesn't need to be Brighton City. Please think again.

Good post.

You mention that Hull City fans signed the petition, I've met two Hull City fans at Whitehawk matches.

I'm really surprised the why the Whitehawk chairman had to mention BHAFC in his interview, it's obviously upset many Albion fans.
Silly really as Whitehawk are at home next Saturday 30th and BHA have no game, I'm sure some Albion fans will not attend.

I've been to a few Whitehawk games in the past as well you know mate.
We are going to Uttoxeter races next saturday anyway, but I can't see myself going back to watch Whitehawk anytime soon.

Can see the hawks backers getting naffed off with all the aggro and wandering off. Hawks will drop back through the leagues, crowds will go back to 40 odd and the Amex mafia will pat themselves on the back!??? Then we could have a vote from the 40 who are turning up.
So you're behind the Whitehawk hierarchy in trying to achieve what Vincent Tan and Assem Allam wanted to do to their clubs?

Funny how lower league corporate decisions are OK isn't it!

As i have said before i'm against the name change and would love BHA to be the only pro side in sussex, its just not really up to me to stick my nose in really.:moo: We Brighton fans should be more concerned with our own club losing £200k a week???

You would love Crawley to go bust then? I thought you were a great advocate of lower league and grassroots football.

Because they are going about it the wrong way.
They should have concentrated on improving the ground and facilities ,and building on the good things they have already achieved

Many people visited the enclosed ground for the first time to see the FA Cup replay, i should imagine quite a few were put off on coming back because of the lack of facilities.
Instead they have shot themselves in the foot this week by upsetting their own fans, Albion fans that also watch Whitehawk, Albion fans in general and local Whitehawk residents.

Teams are more likely to go bust in the top four leagues! Gutted when Crawley gained league status as i wanted the Albion to scoop up as many fans as possible, this is because i want Brighton to be financially secure. Love watching non league but you still have certain teams that you are not fond of.

Two wrongs don't make a right as far as I'm concerned. I used to referee Whitehawk in the County league in the late 70's when it was two men and a dog watching them. There's no need to change the name as 'sponsors' are likely to be local and therefore know the location. Everton manage to cope without having the name of the city as do Port Vale, and all London clubs, so can't the Hawks?

At the same time if the Albion are making legal threats, and we only have the Whitehawk's chairman's word on this, then they are sticking their nose in where there is no need to do so. More evidence of the litigious nature of what was once a sport and is now a depressing charade.
