Slade: More to Come
Posted on: Thu 25 Jun 2009

By Tim Dudding

Russell Slade supplemented his squad further today after netting Stockport duo Gary Dicker and James Tunnicliffe.

That takes Slade's shopping spree to three following the arrival off winger Mark Wright from MK Dons last week, and the Seagulls boss hopes to add even more new faces before the players report back for pre-season next Tuesday.

Slade also hopes to tie up a new deal with Andrew Whing in the next 24 hours.

He revealed, "We're speaking to another player tomorrow, and we're also speaking to other players out of contract and to agents alike.

"We would hope to do a little bit more business before we come back on Tuesday."

Having released 14 players at the end of last season, Slade knows he has his work cut out to assemble a new squad, but is confident he can build a side to challenge at the right end of League One.

"It has been slow to start with but it's starting to pick up. All that hard work we put in weeks ago is starting to come to fruition now.

"It's not easy because Huddersfield are in for everybody! Leeds are in there as well of course, so it's not easy.

"But we're trying to do the best we can and bring in some quality, some energy and improve the squad as much as we can.

"Everyone is working and pulling in the right direction. We chew the fat and look at names, and we make a target list. We're being positive about everything.

"I think it will be very busy right up until the end of August, when the transfer window closes."

That is good news - maybe he was waiting to see if we get any decent players.
