1981/1982 F.A. Cup 4th Round Sat 23 Jan Brighton & HA 0 - 3 Oxford Utd.

Left at half time for this game.. We were 0-3 down at H/t and we were a joke on that day... We were flying high in the top division and they were in the 4th division, I think.. I can't recall their strikers name (black fella) absolutely ran us ragged.. I was 12 and remember leaving embarrassed and with something better to do than watch that gash!
I left when the third went in! I think they were 3rd division at the time and I think the striker's name was Keith Cassells. Can't be arsed to look it up so I await correction. One and only time I've left before the end. (Not that I'm moaning at those who do before anyone starts).

EDIT: Now confirmed by HB&B

Like a fair few in the north that day I stayed to the end and applauded the Oxford team off - they were a credit to their division.

I've always stayed to the end - barring the Hereford walkout - but my stepmum not always so as she liked to get to her car and 'beat the traffic'. A few years back we were playing Pompey in an evening game - early 90s I think - and with a few minutes to go we were one-nil down. At this point she left. After that Pompey had a player sent off, we equalised and then grabbed an injury time winner (Mark Barham I think?). She was quite surprised to hear the turnaround when she turned the car radio on! Didn't stop her leaving early next time though.

people leave games early at every single stadium in the country . no big deal . some people dont like to queue to get home. sometimes they miss last minute goals , their loss.

That was really exciting. In a perverse way, I do miss the battles a bit.
Remember the storming of the East Terrace half-way through the first half against Mansfield and then walking across the pitch at half-time to sit in the directors' box? It was pure anarchy! Amazing stuff.

Keith Cassells . Oxford 3rd Division.

That was the fella! I thought he was class that day...

As the score remained the same at f/t I think that leaving was a good call on that occasion! And possibly, if I witnessed us being played off the park like that again against such lowly opposition , yes I probably would do the same!

Waits for stick.

Bit the other way round, but we were on a coach to Bath to see us play Bristol Rovers. We got stuck in traffic and were listening to the match on local radio. We were two or three goals down by half time and weren't sure if we should just turn the coach around and get back home!

Do you remember the advert in The Argus that appeared after that game? "For sale, eleven clockwork clowns. Some work better than others." The telephone number to call turned out to be the club's!

No, sorry, but bloody funny lol

I'm not to sure if anyone has seen worse, but that performance still ranks as the worst half of footy that I have seen from the Albion....
