It's unthinkable that we will be relegated so we are staying up as going down would put a serious dent in the work the club has put in to date what is it 12 games to go posable 36 points up for grabs

Sheffield away
Palace home
Wolves home
Arsenal away
Leciester home
Man united home
Norwich away
Liverpool home
Man City home
Saints away
Newcastle home
Burnley away

Wolves away
Arsenal home
Leicester away

But I agree with your point

Is it me or is that wrong! Or maybe I have been wooshed.

Can’t see many points out of that lot.
Palace home. 1
Wolves away(?)
Arsenal home 1
Manu 1
Newcastle 3

I think that is it

6 points. Equals 33 points.

So I reckon we need another 5 on top of that to be sure of hanging on.

It is very tight at the bottom with Norwich looking the only one to be odds on...Bournemouth seem to be in free fall, but I think they have the players to get out of this....then it is perm 2 from about 6

Most players from squads that have been relegated aren't going to be attractive to other PL clubs trying not to get relegated, so I doubt there would be a masive overhaul. Dunk would be sold along with 2-3 others out of the current first team squad, which should plug most, if not all, of the 65-70m income shortfall from relegation.

I'd like to think it would only be Pröpper and Dunk from the first team.

However, potentially the biggest loss would be Ben White if Leeds went up and we went down.

I realise not exactly the question asked, but a team for the Championship:

Walton
Webster, White, Burn
Lamptey, Ali J, Stephens, Alzate, Bernardo
Ali Mac Ali
Maupay

Subs, Sanchez, Clarke, Molumby, Connolly, March, Baluta, Bissouma

Gone: Dunk, Duffy, Mooy, Montoya, Propper,Gross,

Unfortunately I think that team would finish around mid-table in the Championship. And I can't see Maupay wanting to stay, or McAllister if he wants to play for Argentina.

Now, don't take this as a negative, but as we have a few days to fill, let's have a discussion about which of the LARGE group of players at our disposal would leave / stay were we to be relegated and start next season in the Championship (not that I think we will). We have 3 groups currently who might be in the running.

  • 1st team squad of 25
  • Players out of Loan
  • Current U23 players

A total of 72 players,

10 Keepers, 26 Defenders, 25 Midfielders and 11 Forwards.

So, who do you think would leave were we to be relegated, who would be retain, and who from the Loan & U23 list would step up?

I personally think we have a wealth of players who would flourish in the Championship, and we'd come straight back up for this reason.

This is simply a thread for speculation and discussion.

First Team Squad
  1. Matty Ryan Keeper
  2. Jason Steele Keeper
  3. David Button Keeper
  4. Shane Duffy Defender

I think the ones that will go will be those who have been here the longest, they will be looking for a new challenge back in the prem, they've done their time in the champ. So I think that Dunk, Duffy, Stephens and March will all go back to the prem, if be very surprised if Ryan didn't too, and Propper will head off overseas.

I think most of the rest will stay, other than a big offer for someone like Alzate, Trossard, White, but that is a big chunk of our British spine gone so I suppose my main concern would be a lack of leaders on the pitch for a tough campaign if we are to bounce straight back. Would have to sign a couple I think

Its all a matter of opinion. I think it would be a good starting point to rebuild for our next assault on the prem. Lots of youth, enthusiasm and pace, and a smattering of experience. We really do have some good younger players.

I would say Dunk, Ryan, Izquierdo, and Propper would definitely leave. Everyone else we could probably keep hold of, if we wanted to.

I'll play!

First Team Squad

Matty Ryan Keeper - Stay
Jason Steele Keeper - released
David Button Keeper - Stay
Shane Duffy Defender - Sold
Lewis Dunk Defender - Sold
Martin Montoya Defender - Loan/Sold
Ezequiel Schelotto Defender - Released
Adam Webster Defender - Probably stay as can't see anyone Prem club coming in for him
Dan Burn Defender - Stay
Bernardo Defender - Sold/Loan
Tariq Lamptey Defender - Stay
Yves Bissouma Midfield - Sold/Loan
Pascal Gross Midfield - Sold
Jose Izquerdo Midfield - IF Fit then could be either loan/stay
Solly March Midfield - Stay
Beram Kayal Midfield - released
Aaron Mooy Midfield - Loan/Stay (depends on who wants him)
Alireza Jahanbaksh Midfield - Like to think he will flourish with the extra space in the Championship
Davey Propper Midfield - Sold
Dale Stephens Midfield - Probably Stay, although if Burnley come sniffing again...
Leandro Trossard Midfield - Loan
Alexis Mac Allister Midfield - Loan
Neal Maupay Forward - Sold
Glenn Murray Forward - Stay

So quite a few to be sold and or put out on loan. So we would utilize what we have below and a few players brought in who can play PotterBall

Loan Players

Robert Sanchez (Rochdale) Keeper - Loan to Champ side
Christian Walton (Blackburn) Keeper - Stay
Tom McGill (Crawley) Keeper - Loan
Carl Rushworth (Worthing) Keeper - Loan
Fynn Talley (Burgess Hill) Keeper - Loan
George Cox (Fortuna Sittard) Defender - Sold I thought
Ben White (Leeds United) Defender - Stay (if Leeds stay down)
Leo Ostigard (St Pauli) Defender - Loan
Leon Balogun (Wigan) Defender - Released
Matthew Clarke (Derby County) Defender - Stay
Kacper Lopata (Zaglebie Sosnowiec) Defender - Loan
Tudor Baluta (Den Haag) Defender - Loan
Soufyan Ahannach (Union Saint-Gilloise) Midfield - sold
Anthony Knockaert (Fulham) Midfield - sold already I thought - pre-arranged deal to be paid up at end of this season?
Jayson Molumby (Millwall) Midfield - Stay
Viktor Gyökeres (FC St Pauli) Midfield - Stay
Max Sanders (AFC Wimbledon) Midfield - Loan to L1 side
Florin Andone (Galatasaray) Forward - Sold
Billy Arce (SC Barcelona) Forward - released
Percy Tau (Club Brugge) Forward - Stay (if work permit) otherwise sold
Jurgen Locadia (Cincinatti) Forward - Sold

So the team could be something like this:

Ryan

Lamptey
White
Webster
(new LB)

Alzate
Stephens
Molumby

Ali J
(New Striker)
March

  8. Bernardo - Stay
  9. Tariq Lamptey - Stay
  10. Loan: Ben White - Stay
  11. Loan: Matthew Clarke - Stay
  12. Loan: Tudor Baluta - Stay
  13. Loan: Leo Ostigard - Stay

    Midfield
  14. Yves Bissouma - Stay
  15. Pascal Gross - Stay
  16. Aaron Mooy - Stay
  17. Alireza Jahanbaksh - Stay
  18. Solly March - Stay
  19. Loan: Jayson Molumby - Stay
  20. U23: Steven Alzate - Stay

    Forwards
  21. Neal Maupay - Stay
  22. Glenn Murray - Stay
  23. U23: Aaron Connolly - Stay

As a generality I see the squad as much too large for the Championship and the fall off in revenue. Thus I would expect that we would want a good few to go and some actual recruitment up front. For example we would not need Walton and Ryan so Ryan would likely be encouraged on his way. I would expect a striker addition if we really want to get back up straight away.

This thread is a tad premature. ..... we are not going down. :albion2:

I agree, we are not. As I said, it's an 'academic' discussion. I understand some people may feel uncomfortable discussing this.
