Mistakes aside I really liked the formation and way we played last night and with the number 10 role we linked play far more effectively and got the ball out wide more regularly. This is part of the reason we are seeing more from Trossard.

So for me if we setup like we did last night then who would we upgrade to make us more effective.

For me it’s the following

Webster - been solid just think if Dunk stays he will be upgraded by White gradually

Stephens - just needs replacing with Biss and Potter has already shown signs this is going to happen on a much more regular basis. Biss just gives the team more energy

Propper - technically sound but like we have with Biss I would be starting to think about Alzate as a longer term option in there and start working him into the side

Groß - used on the right by Potter we need to invest in a right winger

Striker - No issue at all with Maupay but need another up top option here as think Ally Mac and Connelly will be fighting it out for the other position. The Murray with a bit more pace option.

So quality striker and a right winger would be where I would spend the money and continue to bring through the promising youngsters we have on our books.

Proper. Has been caught out a few times now, switches off, always has a mistake in him when playing from the back

Dale. Great pro. Great guy. But is too often chasing shadows. We can and should do better than Dale Stevens.

Matty Ryan, this choice hurts. He’s a great Aussie character, but it’s always nerve wracking watching him short passes. I also feel you want your goalie to make some worldies. Conceded too many soft goals.

Which players do you think Potter will ship out?

You might be taken more seriously if you could spell some of the players names correctly.

This window I think we'll be saying goodbye to Jahanbakhsh, Duffy ( his choice ), Kayal, Stephens, and Steele. 50/50 on if Schelotto goes as well.

We'll replace them with returning loanees and 2-3 new signings ( including a striker ).

A good test as to who will be part of the Potter revolution is to ask which players would be in our team if our top 10 ambition is to be met. The defence is very nearly there. Left back is the main issue. The core of an attacking midfield is there with Bissouma, MacAllister, Trossard and you'd think Maupay, up front, has shown enough that he is at that level. There are players who can help in the transition, the likes of Mooy, Propper and Burn and lots of unknowns such as White, Alzate, Connelly who we just don't know whether they can push to this higher level. However, there are lots of players who I just can't see being part of the Potter revolution. Duffy, Stephens, Gross, AliJ, March, Schelotto, Montoya, Murray.

Propper made a mistake today.

Apart from that he was brilliant, and is con sistently excellent, especially recently. We need to keep hold of him.

Ryan has been consistently excellent.

Stephens and Gross, thanks fellas, it's been great, but time to move on.

Not getting into the Ryan passing debate as it’s nonsense IMO.

But, when was the last time Ryan made a save that you thought, “no way - how did he get near to that”?

He just doesn’t do it very often......

Not saying get rid, just don’t think he’s as good as many feel on here.

If people can’t see the quality that the Dutch International Davy Propper brings to this way of playing them there’s no point debating with them. They clearly just don’t understand football. Yes he made a mistake last night but he has been more integral to our new way of playing than almost anyone, he is entitled to the odd one.

The performance against Champion League holders Liverpool was so exciting. "A team like Brighton" had people around the world sitting up and paying attention.
Since pre-season it's been all about evolution not revolution. Webster, Alzate, Connolly, Maupay, Bissouma, Burn have all developed positively.
Meanwhile Lamptey and MacAllister have jumped aboard the Potterball Express and Ben White is waiting at the station.

Add another couple of secret gems and the evolution gets even more interesting.
I just hope we can hang onto Lewis Dunk.

In Bloom, Barber, Ashworth and Potter I trust.
If we continue playing like this we're certainly going to be noticed even more.

I can't ever remember being so excited about the future.

Firmino's hair isn't good enough.

That was so bad it even too the end off Pip Schofield's new look.

I think we played very well last night . Yes couple of mistakes with overplaying at the back But the football we played was in my opinion of a higher standard than when we played arsenal .

Yes we have a few players that ideally we wouldn’t keep if we wanted to become a top 10 side But that is very difficult primarily because the type of players we need especially y in midfield & attack that would turn us into a top 10 side would be way too expensive for us in terms of salary . Probably double or even treble our current £50 K weekly salary cap .

Within the sensible financial limits we operate on , we gave Liverpool a very good game and for that we should all be very proud . Klopp said in his press conference after the game how impressed he was with what potter is doing at Brighton . Enough said ..

I said exactly the same last night, we don’t often see a worldie from Ryan. I don’t mean to be heightist but anything hit with power into the corners he often can’t physically get to. His height does disadvantage him in these situations imo.

His ball control is excellent and overall I don’t have a problem with his passing, long clearances can be a bit hit and miss though. His reflex saves and change of direction is good too.

I really do think he is too small to be a top keeper but he is certainly good enough for a lower PL team, if we do want to be a top 10 team he really does need some stiff competition, which he doesn’t have.

Hopefully the OP will wake up disappointed with himself.

There is a point that is valid, in that anyone not up to the ball playing game (and able to change tactics) will eventually be eased out - see Shane Duffy. That doesn't mean they are bad players though. Victor Valdes in the Pep / Barca documentary "Take the Ball, Pass the Ball" says when they first started playing out from the back there were "world class" players at the club who just couldn't do it. You need a TYPE of player to play this way.

But I think the OP has simply got frustrated with the goals we gave away. Propper and Stephens were CM last night and your CMs are always likely to be first or second receivers. Liverpool know that and press. One poor touch or pass and they're in. That's their game. Potter could have chosen to play hoofball but, with the team relatively safe, he decided to give Liverpool a game. When it worked - our goal - it's beautiful. When it didn't - their first two goals - it looks awful. But it was what Potter was brought in for.

FWIW I think Stephens' days at the club are probably numbered as well. He's playing less and Bissouma seems to be the future. But that's not because he's "not good enough". He simply suits another style. Joining CH again may be a good shout.

Propper though has more plusses than minuses in Potterball. I can't think of a CM out there that we could afford who would be a better first / second receiver. Yes, there are mistakes but there are plenty of decent passes, interceptions and work rate as well.

The selection of Ryan is just laughable. One of the best distributors in the EPL and one of the reasons he was bought.

So he doesn't produce worldies.

Yet in most games, even last night, he produces worldie reflex close saves esp on the second or third attempt.

TBH I'd rather have a goalie that can stop a thunderbastard from 3 yards than one who can look Hollywood a couple of times a season.

I see you decided to leave out my comment that his reflexes and change of direction were good to make exactly the same point yourself

I’d like a keeper that has good reflexes and makes a number of Hollywood save too, Maybe I’m just a bit entitled

Ryan absolutely needs some competition too although I did also say he was good enough for a lower PL side, which we currently are.

Not sure the defence ' is very nearly there '
GP is clearly pinning his faith in Webster but I could see Burn doing just as well there and a decision has to be made about White, who has more potential than these two put together. Left back isn't an issue. We have a very good one in Bernardo but the manager persists in playing a six foot seven inch CB in that position. Ryan, Dunk and Lamptey are undroppable.

Not saying get rid, just don’t think he’s as good as many feel on here.

I'm not sure I can remember results let alone particular saves, but didn't he pull off a remarkable save away at Wolves just before lockdown where the ball took a deflection off Webster from Jimenez? Or was that less dramatic than I remember?

Tough to analyse a keeping through stats as defending is a unit of performance, but on goals conceded, he's up there or better than Pope, Dubravka, Pickford, and obviously way ahead of Krul, Ramsdale, Foster.

I actually think his handling is underrated, he catches a lot of shots and crosses, you don't see him flapping at or palming shots back into danger areas.

All that said, I am crap at rating keepers to be honest. I don't see Ryan make that many mistakes as I do other keepers. While you make the point about unbelievable saves, I also don't see that many of our goals and think he should have got that either.

He probably is at the right club with the right budget to be competing in the top flight in England. It's not a position I would be thinking about at this point, but healthy competition for that no.1 shirt is never a bad thing.

Over the course of three seasons Ryan Has been very good with the ball at his feet and has distributed well. I wouldn’t say he’s a brilliant shot stopper but for where are, overall we are lucky to have him.
I’d keep Dale, but more as a back-up. Who knows, maybe having his place taken will inspire him?
I’m not surprised Propper divides opinion in this thread. After three seasons, I still feel there’s a better version of him that we have not seen. If we could get our money back I’d take it. I think we could find a replacement At least as good For the money.

We had it with Cruel and Mumbai but decided Button and Steele were worthy replacements ( they aren't )
