This is a tough one, but I opted for the Playoff win in Cardiff, because it ment more for the clubs future. But playing against premiership opposition yesterday and playing better than them was great.
For once I have to agree with TLB's trademark cynicism, it's a little embarrasing to wallow too long in "moral" victories, I'm more intrigued by what lessons we can take out of the Spurs game that will get us more success against teams like the Blades.
We did ourselves a lot of credit yesterday but let's not go overboard - there were a fair few Championship teams who got good results against Prem teams. My guess is most neutrals will have passed over our result very quickly, and certainly most TV broadcasters have.
Yesterday was a good benchmark of how McGhee has developed the team, but let's not get too football snobbish and forget how the direct style of the play-off team gave us a lot of goal threat. For example, I'd have much preferred Chris Iwelumo's head to be on the end of that second half cross than OGH's.
The Cardiff day easily outshines Spurs as an emotional occasion, as an event in the history of the club, whatever benchmark you use.
I disagree with Safeway that Bristol City were a poor team, our tactical approach stopped them playing as it did to the more illustrious opponents yesterday.
My feeling is if our Spurs line-up played our play-off line-up, the "Spurs" team would probably have most of the possession and poor old holding midfielder Charlie would be running around a lot to catch up with new, improved playmaker Charlie. But it wouldn't surprise me if the play-off team would somehow mysteriously manage to win with a "lucky" goal
In my opinion Spurs style of play suited us as they stood off adn we are quite a good passing side. Of course whenever we lost it they then held on to it so the pace of the game was a little slower but there was much more technical ability on show.
With that in mind I say Bristol City because we went there with a plan and it worked perfectly. I honestly got the feeling the whole country was against us and that we were just a bit-part in Bristol's big day out.
Very, very tough choice. But, on balance, the Spurs game for me. In that game we played an on-form Premiershite team, and matched them man for man. If only we had another striker to stick-on to shake things up at the end instead of having to push Virgo up front....
For me, our best performance for twenty years. Well done everyone - including the fans who gave everything.
