Which HORROR film...

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I saw 'Don't Look Now' when I was about 12 and that really did freak me out.

The Ring trilogy (Japanese) also freaked me out somewhat.

I thought The Shining was not particularly creepy, the biggest jump was a neighbour slamming his door shut shortly before the axe attack.

I love films that make you jump as opposed to torture porn a la Saw 1 - 7. Not found a great deal of scary movies that leep you on the edge of my seat. Suggestions welcome!

the first time i saw "the wicker man" i absolutely crapped myself, something about those big animal heads and weird scottish nutbags!!

scariest thing i ever saw tho was an episode of "strange but true" about poltergeists! actually closed my eyes and covered my ears cos i couldnt take it! i was about 9 tho!

The original of "The Stepford Wives" is creepy (particularly the ending) without resource to blood and gore, similarly "The Others" - the only film that I know of that features Nicole Kidman, a future Dr Who (Christopher Eccleston) and Eric Sykes!

I remember watching "Johnny Handsome" which is a creepy and disturbing film with a bit of gratuitous gore and being mildly freaked by the ending.

Salem's Lot - the kid scraping his fingernails on the bedroom window while floating round outside did for me - and probably still would if I saw it again.

In terms of recent(ish) stuff, I went to the cinema to see
The Ring when it first came out
Totally agree

my blood went cold when that thing climbed out through the TV.
Totally agree

Alien PROPER shit me up

Also Salems Lot
Totally agree

That snaggle-toothed vampire was just about the most hideous creature I'd seen in my young life at the time
Totally agree

the bit where the kid is floating outside his window, tapping and scraping on the glass pleading to be let in.
Totally agree

Halloween, I first saw it on Halloween night when living in Whalley Range as a student. I was the only person in the house, and it terrified me at the time, especially the final scene.

The Shining is the only film that I've seen loads and which is still scary. It's those deep sounds in the background: not really music but you just feel them. Kubrick's the best.

Although watching Carrie late at night on my own made my nearly DIRTY myself when the hand comes out of the grave at the end.

Two pages in and no-one's mentioned Germany v England in the WC. That was a real horror show

I've never really been into horror but a recent film which really did make me wince, grimace and grit my teeth was Hard Candy.

I thought that was a comedy. I certainly found much of it hilarious.

The Haunted (1991) made for TV with a low budget, almost impossible to get on DVD. A family home in the USA is built on an old burial ground and is haunted by many ghosts- shit me up as its based on a "true" story. Ghosts during the daytime if I remember rightly
