The chase scene in the Matrix Reloaded is simply jaw-dropping. Not a popular film, as on the whole it was a let-down after the first one. But I think people have let that cloud their opinion of what is, what I think, the most thrilling chase sequence I've ever seen.

I was thinking about putting Matrix 2 forward but then remembered that 90% of that chase was rendered in a computer, where as most car chases that have been suggested actually have a physical asspect to it.

Not strictly true.
I watched the making of it (on the 2nd disc), and the crashes are real cars. They built a 2 or 3 mile stretch of freeway for that sequence, and the cars you see flipping up and rolling all over the place are real - they showed it from a 2nd camera angle while they were filming the sequence.

The part where Trinity jumps on the motorbike and goes the wrong way down the freeway against the traffic does have mostly rendered cars - but the effect is still stunning.

not really a car chase , but the mass pile up at the begining of
final destination 2 is well worth a shout?
Thats a good call - crank that baby up on 5.1, strap yourself in, get a grip on something and just RIDE the noise.

Ooooh yeah.

French Connection - the daddy of car chases, remeber it was filmed in the '70s where technology was not as good as now.
