[Football] Which clubs deserve to be in the Premier League?

Since the money went crazy, and football became big business, it's the best run clubs that have fared best.

Get thing right off the pitch and success on the pitch will follow.

To deserve to be in the Premier League you must have a very rich or a very
savy owner.

To actually stay there long-term they need to be both.

Absolute twaddle....
It is ridiculous to say a club deserves the Premier League . It is like saying a club is too good or too big to go down. In my memory Man U, Tottenham, Man C, &Chelsea have all had spells in lower Divisions.
The team wins or loses, the team deserves relegation if it does not win enough. No favours to the rich and powerful.

Is the longer version of my reply.....

:lolol:

The ones there are the ones who deserve to be there. That's how it works.

The alternative world view leads inexorably to 'we will never be as big as Palace. Fact. They are simply bigger and will always be bigger. Sorry, not Palace, I mean't Everton. Or was it Chelsea?'.

It is the sort of thinking in other realms of human endeavour that leads inexorably to snobbery, racism and all the other lovely ways we humans arbitrarily classify our fellow humans in order to feel better about ourselves.

We may be in the EPL (for now) but we will never be as big as Sheffield Wednesday. Feels good, doesn't it

without a doubt

1 league title ( runners up twice )
5 fa cups ( 5 runners up )
1 league cup
1/4 finals of the uefa cup

80 seasons out of 120 history in top division

WBA are a BIG club

No, not for me.

Small ground, small fanbase. A true size of any club is its fanbase imo.

I'm not suggesting we are remotely a big club - we've only had 8 seasons in the top division in our entire history.

7, but with an 8th en route.

...which will place us equal 49th in the "most seasons in the top flight" league alongside mighty Wigan.

Also above us...

Bristol City (9)
Grimsby and Oldham (12)
Wimbledon (14)
Luton (16)
Cardiff (17)
Bury (22)
QPR (23)
Norwich, Fulham and Charlton (26)
Blackpool (28)
Notts County (30)
Huddersfield (32)
Portsmouth (33)
Coventry (34)
Preston (46)
Blackburn (72)
Bolton (73)

Which of those clubs would you say were BIGger than us?

THE ONLY CLUBS THAT DESERVE TO BE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE ARE THE TEAMS *IN* THE PREMIER LEAGUE.

Anyone saying otherwise is, basically, an idiot. The only caveat is, if you cheated to get there or cheated to stay, then you don't deserve your place.
You can dispute the rights and wrongs of the 'big 6' tipping the balance in their own favour at every opportunity, but 3 clubs go up and 3 go down every season. If you are good enough you get to be one of the former, if not, you don't. It really is that simple.

When we go down (and let's not pretend it will never happen), it will because we don't deserve to stay up. Why? Because we weren't good enough.

Why?

Never relegated from the PL: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Tottenham, Brighton.

Immortal, according to pure raw SCIENCE.

I used to like the 'bigness' conversations. Now they are tedious. The only person on radio 5 who goes on about bigness is dreamboat Roberto Sauvage, man of bronze.

'You can't say that, they're a bigger club'
'You think they're a bigger club?'
'Of course they aren't a bigger club'
'You think they're bigger than Everton?'
'When did Everton last win the Premier League?'
'It's not about winning the Premier League'
'What is it about then?'

And on an on, to be repeated the following Saturday.

Come on people. We're bigger than that.

Some of them are, some aren't - it depends how you measure it. In terms of current gates and current potential, not many of them are bigger than us. I'd say Bristol City are probably the club in the entire league most similar to us in size, because whatever yardstick you use, there isn't much difference between us. Portsmouth consider themselves a big club, but not many others do - they play in a shoebox, have no infrastructure, and the only trophy they've won in modern times nearly bankrupted them. They talk like they have miles more fans than us or Southampton - which is highly debatable anyhow.

But regardless, all I was saying is that given we haven't won anything, we're clearly smaller than Leeds who have won the title in 3 different decades. They're probably one of the top 6 best supported* clubs in the country.

* counting armchair supporters, foreign supporters clubs etc.

What denotes a club being bigger than anything their current league status is it;

1. Number of titles won
2. Number of Cup competitions won
3. Number of current Season ticket holders
4. Number of fans around the world
5. Number of fan clubs
6. Number of fans on clubs forums

Often thought we were about the 33rd biggest club.

Burnley could be above us though, but don’t get big crowds.
