When someone is described as a "celebrity" rather than author/actor/sportsman, you can bet your life that they have no talent for anything. It is an incredibly sad state of affairs to see so much media space wasted on these shallow people.

True. I quite like the new word "sleb" that's appeared, a sort of portmanteau word of slob and celebrity. It can be applied to all minor soap stars, Big Brother contestants, cable TV hosts, weather girls and people who are 'famous for being famous'.
