How many of these could fill Wembley in a series of shows or as part of a UK 'stadium' tour.

All of these acts could fill any stadium as a one off or reforming concert.

I wonder how many could do it having previous played Hamden Park and Old Trafford.

The didn't appear to sell out Twickenham in 2008. Could they do it in 2015?

I think they'd struggle. And biggest band in the world, they're not even the biggest metal band in the world

Really ? which metal band is bigger ?.

I would guess that Metallica and AC/DC are for starters. The problem with iron maiden is that while they have fanatical support they don't have crossover appeal. I don't know anyone who "likes that one song or album" by Maiden but plenty that dont like Heavy Metal who like Metallicas black album and a bit of AC/DC

Iron Maiden selling out rock in Rio doesn't translate to being able to sell out Wembley. Their support in South America is massive. They didn't sell out the Twickenham gig and they've not really grown since. They have a hardcore fan base that will buy the initial rush of tickets but as has been.said above very little casual appeal.

Twickenham was sold out (i.e. no tickets left on sale) - I know as I couldn't get any. I think that the spaces there were restrictions on the stadium.

Florence could I reckon.

Not sure she is big enough for that personally.

I think Stat Brothers question is spot on - as a one off many could still fill Wembley Stadium but not if they also have other UK gigs.

Not sure about Def Leppard these days - not sure their next tour with Whitesnake is sold out yet.

Whilst not my thing, I'm fairly sure Madonna could still sell out Wembley.

Along similar lines, there was an article recently about the future of festivals as there are not enough big enough headline acts out there and many of the established names (many on this thread) are approaching retirement. On the rock front, Sonisphere failed to happen again due to lack of suitable acts and even Download seems to have recurring headliners. Maybe it is time to return to the single day, single stage events where you had a few bands of quality rather than the filler that appears at many festivals today. It seems like everywhere wants to be a mini-Glastonbury but forgets that Glastonbury is more than just a music festival.
