I woke up thinking I'd absolutely nailed an unmentioned entry

MACALMONT & BUTLER

but alas they did an album in 2002 which missed me

Bros - Push.

They were absolutely huge in the brief time they were famous, and they only made one album before the drummer left and they were never big again after that.

Just remembered this as another possible contender:

I can't believe it's been over eight years since Gavin Clark died. He was an incredible talent.

Re: The Stone Roses.
Am I missing something as there were 3 albums? (Stone Roses, Turns Into Stone, Second Coming).

Same goes for The Sundays (RWA, Blind - the best ;) & Static and Silence).

Yes. People are just trying to delude themselves that Second Coming 'doesn't exist'. Don't think Turns into Stone counts though - that was just a compilation.

"Turns into Stone" was a compilation of singles and b sides, like The Smiths 'Hatful of Hollow' and the Wedding Present's 'Tommy'. A few bands have these when their record companies repackage old material. Perhaps there's another question there.

I can't get on board with the Second Coming deniers.

No Second Coming would mean no Ten Storey Love Song, and that would be a very great shame.
