It felt like Potter was overthinking the game vs WBA. Gave them too much respect.
For whatever reason better against the bigger teams. Fearless? Nothing to lose maybe?

We let WBA dictate the second half. We rarely let any teams do that. They looked like a carbon copy of us! And we looked like Palace (bereft of ideas).

Time for Potter to go back to his core philosophy. Possession and attacking football. He needs to double down on it because the boys looked lost trying to defend a 1:0 lead. Not even sure they know how to do that.

He is managing a lot of personalities/egos but he needs to be absolutely ruthless in his team selection from now on.

If he's going to stick with Maupay he probably needs Connolly on the pitch, which means sacrificing Trossard or Lallana (or get a half each).
Are we missing Alzate?
How about Welbeck and Zeqiri getting a run out? Probably worth seeing what they can do, in this system, sooner rather than later.

I'm still fully behind Potter. When I take a step back I love what he's done.
People forget he guided us to our highest points tally and highest amount of goals scored last year since being in the Premiership, whilst changing systems completely.
He needs to trust his footballing philosophy - especially against these (relatively) weaker teams.

BTW there are plenty of teams who are not thrilled with their start, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man U (currently in 15th), and Leeds, who should have won the World Cup already

Finally, we are living in strange times. COVID is a massive blow to life and football. We clearly have become more reserved than others in our transfer dealings as the pandemic tightens its throttle on the economy and our lives. Our expectations were high this year but I'll be happy to stay up until we can get some normality back.

(Nunez was a big miss at the beginning of the window though. Hattrick in the Champions League - ouch.)

I'm not going to advocate replacing Potter, but I do think he needs to wake up to reality a little bit. He sounds totally disinterested in every interview and like he's not all that concerned by what happens. I've seen nothing in the last year to suggest he's as good as his reputation deserves. I think the team is constantly just short of something and I think it's a lack of urgency and a lack of real belief that we SHOULD win every game. You aren't going to, obviously. Sometimes the game just gets away from you and that's not unreasonable, especially in this league.

Nobody can say we shouldn't have beaten Palace or West Brom, though. The Palace game felt like the players believed they were 2 or 3-0 up at 0-0 before the random penalty gifted Palace the lead and we only got level late on. I didn't bother with the game last night so I've no idea if history repeated but being 1-0 up and not killing the game largely speaks for itself.

To be fair, for much of his time in charge we were saying the same about Hughton!

Where it really went wrong was when we started wearing something closely resembling the 1983 relegation shirts .....................

I say we will stick with Potter because he has us playing the way we want to play. The real question is how long will it take to bed the system in properly so we can play that way consistently and under all circumstances. It's a process.

Personally I think it won't come to relegation, I think we will be fine, last couple of games have been poor but everyone has that from time to time. Start of the season and end of last season were really good. We should really have more points this season, as it stands things look shaky, but then that doesn't really mean much after only 6 games played.

Nice football, similar outcomes to the previous manager.

Potter needs to step up, he walked into this Premier League job with no experience, he now needs to prove he is worthy of Bloom's bold decision.

Problem being is for a number on here they forget Bloom has already got it wrong with one managerial appointment, Hypia, hence some people’s blind faith with the current manager, the chorus of trust in Tony has a caveat, he has made a huge mistake previously.

I want Potter to succeed, I hope he succeeds, but I’m sorry I’ve got this nagging doubt at the back of my mind asking me the question is he out of his depth?

Time will tell, classic Albion they will probably go and win at Spurs on Sunday like we did in October 1981.

When Shane Duffy went out on Loan.

The team were only 10 mins away from holding out the other night for a 1 - 0 win and people's views would be very different if that had happened.

Previously protecting a lead . Duffy would have come on and shored up the defence and Dunk would havev been alongside him to see the game out.

Don't get me wrong. I don't see this team as good as many seem to allude to when they play well or win. But neither do I see them as being as bad as some allude to when they lose or play badly.

The loss of Duffy will be more costly to the team than many think this season.

Pep Guardiola is out of contract with Citeh then so maybe he could improve the side.

i'm as frustrated as anyone by the inconsistent results/displays but he secured 41 points for us last season and he needs 36 points from 32 games to do likewise this year so i think we've plenty of time to judge. But idea that we should judge the effectiveness or ability of Potter on his post match interviews is pushing it a bit or suggest he's uninterested or not concerned. Of course he is.

People have very short memories. We are a small fish in a big pond and will be for a while until it's our turn to get relegated. That's life folks. Enjoy the ride.
