Come on boys and girls. Free man of the city and local Olympic legend.

Let's here it for the king of middle distance running.

Outside of football few things in sport have bought me more pleasure than the seeing sulky Seb  blubbing on the podium as he looked up to the main man in Moscow.

although Styris had a good go at it last night.

I went down to watch the unveiling of the statue.

It was a good turnout on a lovely summers days - pity no one could hear the speeches but well done everyone involved in getting this on. Great to have it on the seafront near the marathon finish line

I LOVE this photo - so much so that I had it added to the mosaic in Dick's bar. It NEVER fails to make me smile. As for those pikey w@£*ers who stole the original statue...

(note: I didn't take this photo, sadly I am not that cool, kudos to whoever did)

I was down there yesterday and was gobsmacked by some people not knowing who he was. These were Londerners albeit teenagers.

Total legend. It seemed at the time you were either a Coe fan or an Ovett fan. For me, Ovett was the maverick and the more engaging personality. I remember clearly the Moscow olympics, watching day and night sessions on both ITV and BBC. Adrian Metcalfe from ITV got the exclusive post 800 interview (Ovett had shunned the media circus in the two years previous). I recall thinking then that the win would dent his appetite for the 1500 and alas that seemed the case.

Still worth it after all these years to watch the BBC coverage and see just how empty Coe looked at the end of teh race and on the podium

Not to forget the trade mark wave to the crowd as he cruised passed his rivals on the finishing straight, in so many races.

Steve Cram ran as an 18 year old in the 1500 metres final in moscow. At the end he saw Seb Coe on the floor and, having finished 50 metres back and not seeing eth finish, assumed that Ovett had won. He patted Coe on the back and said 'tough luck' before realising that Coe had won. He simply assumed that Ovett was going to win it.
