Whilst I do kind of agree with the premise of your argument, If Moises is on 80k p/w here (I assume he’s near the top earners) That’s still over 2m p/a after tax, that still sets him and his family up for life.

I think the problem is now is that agents drive footballers, it’s not always what the players want, they are guided by the money thirsty people who make their livings out of these transfers.
Huge difference between earning £10m over 5 years and £30-35m .

I don't disagree about the parasitic agents. How could I? But the difference between earning £2m a year and say £10m for a guaranteed 5 years is vast. And coming from poverty, as he so recently did, gives you a different lens to a football fan who sees it all as hypothetical "monopoly money".

Just try to imagine the family pressure In Caicedo. They don't give a damn about the employer or the "opportunity to grow". They dreamed of a payday if Moises made it, and that day is today.
Point of order: surely for a poor family in Ecuador, £2M a year is a pay day - a veritable jackpot in fact! (not that that will stop him moving if he's offered £10M a year, of course).

Few thoughts

1) Chelsea had a rough season last season. But they do have a good squad and now have a very good manager. They could catch up with arsenal very quickly, especially with players like caciedo.

2) 90% of people on this board would leave the company they work for if offered triple the salary. Loyalty my arse.

3) You can't compare the conduct of maccer with caciedo. Maccer was rubbish for the first year , average for the second. No clubs were interested in buying. As soon as he got half decent he buggered off at the first offer.

Yes. But they would still understand £10m to be massively more (better). The driver is money, so a bigger number is better. And the gap between 2 and 10 really is petty huge. I'd change jobs in a heartbeat for a 5x salary increase and a long contract.

Yes, I know - "not that that will stop him moving if he's offered £10M a year, of course."

He could earn £10m to £12m a year for five years. That sets him, his family and all his friends up for ever. Why would he turn that down, even at the age of 21? Maybe he could develop a bit more by staying here. Maybe he'd get European football elsewhere, but he's made it from a financial perspective.

Also, let's talk loyalty. If BHA decided a player was not making the grade or got an offer too good to refuse, we'd move on a player at the drop of a hat. Football is a business. And we fans are the only people who deal in the currency of loyalty.

Ps I'd love him to stay but that's football
Agree to an extent but he’s not a pauper playing for the Albion. In a way, it’s a shame for these players. The way everything has come together right now down here is pretty special. Clearly a huge team spirit, breaking new ground for a club where they’re all adored and the expectation is - comparatively - very low. He’s young enough to enjoy that environment for another year at least before needing to chase his big move - and he could do much better than a basket case club like Chelsea. I bet a lot of them will look back later as this being the most ‘fun’ they had in their career, regardless of the silverware they go on to win - if they prosper.

I think Mac understood it, hence the tears. Perhaps the football background helped. De Zerbi gets it, with his comments about it being more of an achievement to qualify for Europe here than to win a trophy with the likes of City. It’s the type of perspective that comes with age, which is why young players so desperately need the advice of good people.

Now I KNOW this is probably mainly dreamt up BUT this type of thing is really starting to grate with me. How can ‘personal terms be agreed’ if ‘the two clubs haven’t held talks yet’? Is this not just tapping up? An illegal approach? Or are those just forgotten rules like a keeper realising the ball after 6 seconds?

Well, you have greater links to the club than me so maybe you were aware of the contract negotiations. I wasn't, so what it has clarified for me is exactly what the deal is. Caicedo believes he has the green light to go but there are no clauses in his contract allowing that, no cut price deals to be made and thus chelsea have to pay us what we want.

Saying he is off and was always going to be is nothing to do with what has been clarified. Or what has been clarified for me.
Sorry, that post read a little too abrupt.

The club keep all cards very tight to their chest nowadays on all transfer dealings, so I don't know anything from that angle.

For me, it's just been as simple as believing that after January's shenanigans, he would depart this summer, and nothing that has happened since has made me doubt that.

Do we have to have this on every transfer thread?

Personal terms are regularly agreed before prices are. It doesn’t really matter and it makes sense as it stops clubs/players/agents wasting their time on a transfer that isn’t going to happen. It won’t stop as it’s in all clubs interest as they all do it, including ours.

Do you think we made a £30M bid for Jaoa Pedro without having any idea if he was interested in joining us, or what kind of money he wanted ?

Or started bidding for young lads from South America without any idea if they would want to come ?

No. But we would have asked the club the player is registered with if we could have the discussion, wouldn't we? Thems the rules.

I know that's naive and not the way it works.

The biggest indication that we do the exact same is the fabled "no dickheads policy".

People are happy to believe that we do a mountain of due diligence before we sign somebody to make sure they're not a dickhead, but never consider how we'd get that information. Unless we judge their entire personality on how they act during contract negotiations then we're reaching out to agents, former team mates etc before we've had a bid accepted. Does anybody really think we'd do that if we didn't know the player would be up for moving to us? I'm not surprised it's so widespread now, it's such an impossible thing to police that you might as well just let everyone speak to potential targets.

I think some people just need to feel like we're the last bastion of decency in a league of clubs breaking the rules.

Terms almost agreed probably doesn't go much further than Club rings players Agent/Intermediary asks will he join x Club for 200k a week? Probably? Okay we'll sort the details later.

I doubt that there's anything in the rules that stops that from happening and it's probably what we have done in most modern transfers (as much as any other club).

Hopefully we get this thing done soon, then we can all look forward to those who want to come here rather than those wanting out.

I'd be disappointed if Moises went to Chelsea, he's (or his advisors are) clearly being driven by the cash. Career wise I'm not sure it's the best move for him, but I would expect to thrive there as he is just that good a player. I'm not going to expend any emotional energy on being outraged or upset by it.

The key now is for the Albion to secure suitable compensation. In the same way Chelsea hold the Levi cards, we hold the Caceido cards so I suspect that there is a deal to be done here. I have every confidence that our negotiating team will yet again secure a good result for us.

Yeah, that's fair enough. For me it's clarified that we are in a position to rinse Chelsea. We won't be losing him for less than he's worth. After ally macs bargain sale it's nice to know the crown jewel won't be going cheap.

Do you have to be so patronising? I only asked a question.
