I guess it depends on your meaning of nothing.

It means that there is a willingness on his side to play for us.

Which means that should Chelsea change their minds and find him surplus-ish to requirements then a deal can be made.

It means that if Chelsea do decide to sell him and we go in for him we have a good chance of signing him even if other teams are interested.

It means that he may well refuse to sign a new contract which means that his value will start dropping from January. It's feasible IMO that we could tell him to hold tight until January and we'll be back in.

It doesn't mean that we're definitely going to sign him but it does show that he actively wants to play for us rather than it being a 'yeah, I can take it or leave it' situation. Where there's a will, there's at least a hint of a way.
How many times have you heard a footballer who has had a successful loan spell say they will keep there options open when asked about there future?
Colwell is certainly standing by his word though regarding signing a new deal. Credit to him. Would love to see him here along with Gonzalez.

Means absolutely nothing. Footballers will say anything just to please. Even if Colwell refuses to sign a new deal I fully expect his valuation to be around 50 million. To much for us unless a deal can be struck with Moises.
His transfer valuation will drop rapidly if he doesn’t sign the new deal. He’s currently got 2 years and any option for an extra year is based on game time. If he doesn’t play much this season for Chelsea they’ve really got no choice but to sell next summer. This summer is the last chance they’ll get a decent fee for him.

The noises being made by Poch doesn’t sound like Colwill is being considered as a starter but part of the squad so his game time could be very limited without European football this season. I still think there is a deal to be done with or without Moises going the other way.

Hope you are right

I would argue the noises Poch is making is 'you're part of the first team plans, nobody is guaranteed to start'. Which is exactly what RDZ would say. I just think Colwill doesn't like the club and sees his future here. He's being diplomatic.

He knows RDZ and has already proved himself in an RDZ team. He knows he’s going to get game time here because of that and our extra games this season. He could spend all season sitting on the bench at Chelsea watching Harry Maguire stink out Stamford Bridge week after week (if media rumours are to be believed).

Or on a par with Ben White

Ben White wasn't a novice, he had played over 12000 first team minutes by the time we sold him.

That's more than Pervis Estupinan had played when we signed him.

Colwill has only played just over a quarter of that and only 1200 in the Premier League.

I think the difference is that in this case Colwill's public actions/words are backed up 'behind the scenes' if @Bozza is to be believed. I think it's fair to say we can trust Bozza so I'm taking it as more than Colwill saying empty platitudes.

I think it takes Colwill to tell Chelsea very directly he is not interested in staying there or signing a new contract for him to have any chance of joining us.

Interesting the £80m upfront or £100m over 3 years has been tabled as lots of rumours over past week about Chelsea only being able to afford to go to £80m on this due to FFP. Could see why Bloom would hold on 90+ upfront as gives him leverage to play the ‘unless you want to add Levi to reduce the upfront cost’ card.

Still think he stays at Chelsea but if in some twist he joined us I would be on Twitter for a month individually responding to the thousands of Chelsea fans that are currently laughing at the chances of him joining us

No-one is guaranteed but the way RDZ handles players I think he’d talk him up much more. A manager can give a player the impression they’re first choice without it causing an issue. It goes without saying they have to put in the performances to retain that privilege.

True but I suspect when RDZ moves on, so will Colwill's affection for BHAFC.

If - and just if - things fall for us and Colwill doesn't sign a new deal at Chelsea and they have to cut their losses against losing him for nothing in 2025, resulting in him coming to us, do you seriously think he'll stay for more than two seasons (max) anyway before moving on to bigger and better things? De Zerbi or no de Zerbi. We are still a stepping stone, whether we like it or not (I do, rather) - albeit an increasingly high level stepping stone.
One or two more years of Colwill for us and selling him on for a profit (even though Chelsea would, quite reasonably I think, want a good chunk of that with a sell-on clause) would be a fantastic outcome for the Albion.

Of course, we are a stepping stone, which is exactly why we should enjoy Roberto de Zerbi as much as we can before he moves on.

Of course. The point is though, that Colwill will move on in two years or less (assuming he actuallu comes to us, which I admit is a long shot) regardless of how long de Zerbi stays. De Zerbi leaving would not be the trigger.

I would imagine so. Players like Dunk and March are rare, staying at one club for most of their career.

The key to any deal will not only be the amount but how it is paid. I read (somewhere) that the £70m bid was in instalments over several years.
I think people often make too much of this.

Nearly all football transfers are paid in instalments.

I would hope that RDZ will stay for as long as Brighton make progress season by season. I’m guessing he’ll have a big financial incentive to achieve that, as well as professional desire. The worry is that he’ll go to City if Pep is as impressed by him as he says he is. Seems likely that he’ll have a big say in his successor when he moves on from City in a couple of years so RDZ may well be in the frame.

I am sure that will get all the long time diehard Chelsea fans from Benin to Bahrain frothing at the mouth!

Rumours of Chelsea in the market for a CB due to Fofana’s injury. I’ve seen Guehi mentioned by a few different sources, at around £50m.

That really would make my summer. Palace losing their golden boy and pissing Levi off so he joins us. Scenes.

If Colwill does sign for us and goes on to become the next Chiellini or Alaba, at least he knows we will let him go to a top 4 club and not hold him to ransom.

Though fingers crossed we will eventually get to the point where we can keep our top players....... and attract them to us over the likes of City and Real!
