Agreed…..I reckon PB/TB are playing hardball over Colwill coming the other way (and the price), even though anything coming out of Chelsea appears to be a clear ‘not for sale’.
Pretty good position to be in. I think we see colwill as a very good footballer and also a financial asset. If we can get him for £40m now he may well be £100m in a few years. I’d still be asking for 70m for Moises.

If we can’t have him then Chelsea can’t have Moises.

…….unless they pay over the odds…..I see a stalemate, Boehly can’t allow himself to be rinsed again can he ?

with a release mechanism so, in reality, f*** all left on his contract. His existing contract ran out in 24 the new one was 25 but the release mechanism meant we would get more than we would have under the original contract, but we were still in a very weak bargaining position, one that you either didn't realise or chose to ignore when you made you price comparison
I was fully aware, thank you. The fact remains that his contract wasn't running out. Yes, we all know there was a release clause. We also know - as do the Liverpool fans - that they got one hell of a cut price bargain, so the price comparison is real and quite valid.

Since there is no thumbs-down option these days, I will politely disagree with this opinion.
You think getting a future ngland CB that Chelsea really do not want to sell for £40M would be a bad deal?

The '£40M + Colwill' deal thus values Caicedo at £80M, which realistically is about what he will probably actually go for. Maybe a few million less, but a small sacrifice (in PL finance terms) to facilitate the deal.

No it isn’t. How many times do you need to be told that the price is simply what we are prepared to accept and someone else is prepared to pay. In this one case we may have written that price into a contractual arrangement

What 'isn't'?
His contract had two years to run.
There was a release clause (which admittedly greatly reduced/wiped out the bargaining value of the two years left on the contract).
He was a cut-price bargain for Liverpool.

also surely even with this kind of deal we would need to factor in the sell on based on a value attached to Colwill. I'm sure a dullard would know how these things would work

Big difference is that the clubs are talking every day now..... Which is a shame !
Allegedly. The clubs have been "talking" for 3,000 years without seemingly ever actually getting on the phone.

So far as I can tell, the narrative it: Brighton will sell but want £100m, Chelsea want to buy but won't pay £100m and will only go to £80. The expectation being, Brighton will cave because Chelsea want them to.

Sounds like the constant communication over the last few days is..

Friday.
Chelsea text: £80 million
Brighton text: no.

Saturday.
Chelsea text: £80 million
Brighton text: no.

Sunday.
Chelsea text: £80 million
Brighton text: no.

Etc etc.

Clearly things will happen very quickly once they get close to our asking price but there's no suggestion that's happening yet.

Well absolutely. All the while transfer gurus tweet about an agreement being close, then delete the tweet and write it again (but worded slightly differently) three days later.

I'll be honest, I'm pretty confident that Caicedo will go, but I'm far from certain it'll be to Chelsea

Guaranteed Colwill wants to stay at Chelsea, why do people think anything else? It'll be a loan at the very best and even that's doubtful. Forget Colwill, he certainly won't be any makeweight in a Caicedo deal

No one know because it’s all made up bollocks
As others have said it's like groundhog Day here every day. As much as we hate fab most of the time he's right. He has good contacts in the game.

It seems to have been clear from the beginning that the price is 80-85 plus add-ons so would imagine Chelsea need to go up at least another 10 in their base price.

100m is pie in the sky, unfortunately.

Colwill is a very good young player, but 40m is a lot to pay for what is still potential. I think his talent and value has been somewhat inflated over the off season just because he's been the subject of a bid from BHA and speculation of potential swap deal.

Besides, if West Ham can get 100m for Rice, then I'd be dissapointed if the transfer value for Caicedo was less given that he's already as good, if not better, and 3 years younger.
