Hodgson has had 2 tournaments and we have declined to not getting out of a group which we struggled to qualify for, so the next step is we won't qualify for the next World Cup

Ernest you really are a ray of sunshine in these bleak times:cool:

I agree with Robbie Savage. There should be a structure, you know, like a pyramid, with Glenn Hoddle and Gary Neville in it. A pyramid that is a structure. Not like now. But different. A pyramid, you know. Glenn Hoddle there at the top of it. Right on top. Glenn Hoddle. Everyone playing the same! And Gary Neville.
I'm looking forward to it.

Put all England players in the same domestic club, and make them play with each other week in week out.

Pity the supporters of the club.

Think things have changed this year for kids. 9 aside football till they reach 16. Could be wrong though. Might help as this has been norm in most European countries.

If that's true it's a good start. Have pitch sizes been altered accordingly?

They should, in my opinion, play 7-a-side until 14, then move to nine.

Sturridge needs to learn to pass, he is going down the Defoe route.

We need a right back who can defend, thought jones played well today

Shaw should be our number one left back now

Cahill needs a partner - stones looks promising.

Agree with some of your points, but why no mention of:

Centre-half deficiencies - England has fallen away, surprisingly on world class CB talent, compared to even recent times.
Jagielka may be a nice person and good in most games for Everton, but isn't international class. Smalling is error prone, has awful distribution, and falls further down the ManUre pecking order with each new spending spree.

A lack of quality defensive midfielders shielding the defence. No one of class in that area seemingly in the pipeline.

I haven't watched England properly since the last WC so I will have to defer to you and others on this.

Are Italy and Spain asking the same questions? Second time in succession that Italy haven't got out of the group.

Lots of things wrong in England, the power of the Premier League, the poor structure of grass routes football, lack of quality coaches, lack of coaches to coach the coaches, lack of pitches, too many non English players at our top clubs.

Keep the top youngsters in the England U20 & U21s for longer rather than springing them into the senior squad.
A) We might win a comp &
B) They'll get used to overseas tournaments & all that they involves with their peer group rather than being slung straight in to a World Cup with the household names.
Moving (Italy match) Motm Stirling out wide to accommodate Rooney at #10 for Uruguay was a major clanger Roy.

Stop being so blinkered in our selection of players. Why when so few English players play in the premiership do we refuse to even consider players in the championship. Will Hughes and Trippier should both have been considered and even Ings if he had been fit. Why is Lambert suddenly a better player at 32 in the premiership compared to two years ago when he was in the championship?

No coherent over-arching strategy in place to spot, develop and deliver talent. Three organizations pulling in different directions with vastly different agendas. A slow steady decline which has now resulted in the worst tournament pretty much since England first entered the tournament.

Where does it go from here?
WELL LOOKING AT THE PAINTED FACED, WIG WEARING fans we've got its a bit like a circus act now :vuvu:

We need a system which suits 90% of the players at the managers disposal. Not pick the 10 biggest names who play for the top 6 English clubs and try to shoehorn them into a team. If one of the 10% of the other players happens to be a 'superstar' then they either have to adapt or be left out. We need a management team with the balls to do it.
We also need a manager at least 10 years younger than the current one.

spain didnt through. italy didnt go through. portugal wont. so why do w ehave to having this desperate introspection of England? we played ok, out done by a few quality goals. we should have scored a few. i dont see any answers, because no one can identfy exactly what the cause is. im going to blame the fans who want, demand instant results always and arent prepared to wait for any medium/long term project, let alone ask for that to be done.

If it was 2010 all over again then I would agree. But it was nothing like 2010. We're finally playing modern football with a pretty exciting set of youngster. No hand-wringing required. Just a few more quality defenders needed...

1. Roy needs the guts to stick with these kids.

2. Clubs need to employ better coaches to work with our kids. This tournament once again shows that our accuracy of passing, shooting and basic ball control is well behind many of the other nations in Brazil.

Roy needs sacked, any manager who thinks Jagielka and Baines are international quality need their head testing. Hodgson seemed incapable of neutralizing players his tactics gave Pirlo so much space against Italy it was on the point of embarrassing. Lets be honest he is out of his depth at international level he knows it and should stand down, if we are to have a hint of success in Euro championships he needs to go now.

Well said. The Harry Redknapp & Chris Smalling dream team will GUARANTEE us the trophy in France in 2016.

I'm going against the grain by saying that in many areas the team has improved. Certainly better at ball retention and we could easily have won all three games. We need to sort our defence out massively, and Sturridge needs to learn how to finish like he does for Liverpool

Couldn't agree more...

Played well against Italy, not quite so good against Uruguay and were unlucky to lose. Big difference was clinical finishing. We need someone who can anticipate and snaffle a half chance like Suarez did against us. Rooney shot straight at the keeper from 6 yards out, Suarez buried his 2 chances. We were certainly easier on the eye than in SA and although we are out a game earlier we have improved since then. Need some pace at CB a better RB and a finisher, otherwise we are a pretty decent side
